Planning canoe/fishing trip
Hello everyone,
A good friend and I are planning a week canoe trip this year and I am just looking around at different places to go. We are located in the Hamilton area and looking to travel at max 16hrs and would be on the water for around 6 days. We were thinking the Upper Grand River to start but im looking around now at a few places in the States and they also look pretty amazing. Any thoughts?
Thanks for the input

Spanish river system. There are a couple of options for ferrying vehicles around, taking the bud car from Sudbury, getting picked up/landing at the Agnew lake marina...
http://www.myccr.com/ has plenty of options for trip routes in Ontario, as well as other locations.

Is this more a fishing trip or a canoe Trip.
You can't go wrong with Algonquin Park, if you have any experience and are willing to portage accessing through Rain, Tim or Magnatawan will get you out of the crowds. Some good fishing on many of the lakes and you can't beat the scenery. Your route options are endless pending how much effort you want to put forth.
Early spring, spring, summer, fall ???
The brooks are fantastic at first 'ice' out April/May (JUNE at this years rate)
Killarney is another great choice but a lot of the lakes are 'dead' due to the minerals and don't allow fishing. You will have to do some research on this if its a 'fishing trip' as to plan your route to hit lakes that are allowed.
You have so many options in Ontario, but the actual pupose/goals of the trip will help dictate your final location.
Crownland is great but a little harder to navigate without doing the research first. Planning a crownland trip is part of the fun as you have to find all the information on your own as its not a set route or marked area.
If you are new(er) at this and have not heard of Jeff's Maps they can help you out a lot if Algonquin, Killarney or Temagammi is on your short list.
Good luck and enjoy the waters,

The Saugeen river might be a great choice. Close by and you can go all the way from Hanover to Lake Huron.

I second that, and any other book by Kevin Callan.
Ontario is unbelievable to explore by paddle.

I love KCs resources. I can easily vote for this as a great trip planning resource at a very reasonable price. I have used this book (and many of his other efforts) in planning my trips over the years.
