Well ... thanks to an immigration SNAFU, looks like I'll be seeing the start of the Iditarod this Saturday.
I was supposed to be there all this week, flying back Friday. The race starts Saturday. But the HR department gave the wrong form to the US immigration people, so now I'm flying up Wednesday and staying over the weekend to see the start of the race.
I'll make sure to take some pictures and post them here to make ya jealous.

Due to the warmer than normal winter they have been having .... you do realize that the start for this year's race is in Fairbanks, not the Anchorage area.....

It's a ceremonial start in Anchorage which is still on for the 7th, last I checked. They usually do this ceremonial start in Anchorage and then restart in Willow but this year it's Fairbanks. How am I supposed to make YD jealous if you keep bringing reality into it?
I guess there is a lot of concern about the trail even past Fairbanks. There's been lots of rain and warm weather.

Interesting .
Not enough snow for Anchorage and , but the weather has been so bad for the Ames National Championship for pointing breeds that the whole plan has been mucked up.

Interesting .
Not enough snow for Anchorage and , but the weather has been so bad for the Ames National Championship in Tennessee for pointing breeds , that it came close to being cancelled.
( The closest it ever came to that is they did not hold it in the 1890's because of yellow fever and cancelled it in the 1960's after a handful of dogs ran without enough birds.)

Nice.
The real bummer is that the real start would have been on Sunday, but Fairbanks is so far that they set it back to Monday, when I have to work. I'm just nuts enough to drive a 12-hour round trip to see it, but not quite nuts enough to get fired for not showing up to work on Monday. The company gets excited about that kind of thing.....

Welsh ... It is quite a drive ... Long enough in the summer months, not sure I would want to do some of those stretches in the winter months with the potential for bad roads or weather!!
