Be good to yourself Buddy and buy a Toyota.

Has too much time on their hands

Most new F/S trucks now have @400 HP and over 400 in torque. Not too many users need more than that. It becomes marketing more than necessity.
I'll put my two cents in.
We have had 5 f150's 4x4 in the fleet in the past 5 years. 2 5litres and 3 eco's. These replaced Dodges and Chevies. Each truck averaged 75 k per year use.
Fuel economy is good. Maintenance was LOW. Catastrophic failure not witnessed.
BUT
Ford is missing the mark. They should have forgone the aluminum BS and put a small Diesel in the F150.
Weight savings isn't going to do enough. I performed comparative tests in winter loaded with 800 lbs and empty and avg fuel economy changed by .5l/100 mixed driving.
The ecoboost is a great engine. Useable power even as a commuter is unsurpassed in my opinion but when you can make the same torque with a small diesel using half the fuel it should be a no brainer.
I hope they clue in because Chevy has a Colorado coming out with a small diesel that is going to knock the ball out of the park.
Fuel economy drives sales and yes to some folks it amounts to a hill of beans but to a lot it really needs to be considered.

Given the upcharge for the cost of the diesel option and many times the higher cost of the fuel does it still net out at an advantage? I guess the trade in value will likely cover the initial buyin?

When Dodge released the Ram 1500 with the Ecodiesel as a no cost option, it was an obvious choice. Now however the ecodiesel is a $5700 add on. Over the length of time an average owner has their vehicle, I'm not sure if it would be worth it.

All the discussion about gas or diesel never includes spilling 1 drop of diesel fuel on your clothing as you continue your 1000 kilo trip to go hunting. So.....let hear from the guys who have the best fuel filling system for diesel trucks and which one is the best to fill

If I had to haul around a 10000 lb trailer all the time I'd get a diesel. Otherwise they're not worth it for the added cost of the engine, maintenance, and fuel.

If you go buy the government fuel consumption site it would take just over six years to get your money back on the diesel vs the hemi. That's assuming you are paying the full cost for the option and it's not on promo or anything.

Resale on diesel should be better I would think ?

Still have the add in the extra cost of diesel fuel over gas. Also, if you're keeping the truck for any length of time the engine may be fine but everything else around it will start to go.

Should be. However, then you are still looking at a 6 year old Chrysler product....the engine might be ok, but after 6 years of Canadian winters, I've seen more than a few Dodge / Chrysler products looking pretty aged.
