Thinning The Crow Numbers

Had the chance to get out and take down some crows last week. These little buggers are so destructive and this area I hunted is covered up in them. Hope to get out and do it again soon!

A bunch of questions if you don't mind. Were you using a shotgun? Did you use a caller? How long did it take.? After you shot the first one did the others scatter or just keep coming? Cheers man. Would love to read your narrative.

I did use my shotgun on this hunt. I set up 3 dozen decoys in the field adjacent to the farm I was hunting and used my e-caller with a fighting crow sound playing. I have never worried about having to shoot the first bird that shows up, or the scout that other people call them. At first light I had a group of about 10-15 come in right over the decoys and I managed to double and the rest scattered. After that it was pretty consistent with singles and pairs coming in for a look until mid morning when I packed it in. I got 22 that morning and my hide was in near some old farm equipment that was lying at the edge of the field as well.

Nice, good plan..gonna try that soon. Seen last year, one of the members bought some owl and crow decoys at Dollar store for crow hunting. We had some at hunt camp last weekend just proving the crow fight, dying crow and cottontail distress works for calling them in. Set up the FoxPro Fury 20 feet from camp door to prove to other guys its works... great fun. They came from all around the area...

Nice! I know an area of Ontario that looks allot like that...and I took my first crack at hunting crows down there in the late fall. Shooting was fast and furious, all kinds of crows...never seen anything like it. I've educated the crows up near where I live now (near Newmarket) and while I can still seem to generate some interest with decoys and the FoxPro Hellfire...I haven't connected with any in the last 3 attempts.

Good to see some CROW content on here. Hunting them has helped me keep distracted until groundhog season.
