You buy two boxes of five Hevi shot at $17, use part of one to see what pattern you are getting and the remainder goes to hunting use. So you have 10 shells say pattern two of those you are left with 8, that should get you through 4 seasons. So over four seasons of turkey hunting you are spending less than 10 bucks a year in shells.
I wish waterfowling was that cheap
Help me out here........but where are you buying Hevi 13 for $17/box of 5!!?? Even better.......where are you buying Hevi 13 turkey loads in Canada period!! I have seen the Hevi waterfowl loads and that crappy #5/6/7 combo at Bass Pro, but I have not seen the true Hevi-13 Turkey loads up here in years.
Best price around is Cabelas (US) - Hevi 13 3" 2oz #6......reg $30.99 on sale for $24.99......include exchange and your $32.75 Cdn. If you see this at $17 a box buy a flat of it and you can double your money!! Last time I saw it in a store was 2 years back and I bought 3 boxes (15 shells) for just under $100 and I still have enough shells to last a couple of seasons. I figure by then someone will have something that will perform as good or better than it and I will make the switch.

I bought a few boxes last year at LeBaron in Mississauga and Bass Pro had them as well. And yes it has been a few years since Barry must have bought them, I paid about $30.00 per box of 5.

my bad guys. I picked the hevi shot up on a smoking deal last year for $17. you are correct in that the average retail is in the $30 range.

That's what I thought too, but I wasn't sure because I don't even pay attention to Hevi shot due to the price.

How do they pattern and any strange behavior from them?

they had them at my canadian tire too, thought they were crazy.. now, i don't use them, can't justify spending $11 per shell.. however, if other wanna use them, all the power to them.. what gets me cranked up, CT had these and nothing else.. told the guy that they're not giving the consumer much choice, we should have the choice of a more affordable shot.. did end up finding some, was still $36 per 5, still expensive.. i use 3 shells ( 20, 30 and 40 yard) to pattern, one shot at each.. i bought 2 boxes, so i still have 7 shells which should get me through a few seasons.. none the less, hunting is getting more and more expensive

It makes me shake my head when I read these threads. There isn't much special about killing a turkey. You just find a load that patterns well in a tight choke. I use Kent Turkey loads... 10 for $7. I can't fathom spending $30-50 for five shots.
