Same here... but... admittedly, right now i can't get any of my cheaper rounds (most expensive box was $17 for 5, cheapest was $9 for 5) to pattern reliably past 30 yards (maybe this is the max for my 20 ga though).
Maybe if I dropped $40-$50 for 5... I'd find a product that could let me reach out to the magical 40 yard mark?

not only are they not giving the consumer much choice. they are not giving the consumer ANY legal choice. unless you are talking b about the plain Hevi-shot and not the one from the original post.

I have a 20 gauge SX3 with a Carlson's Turkey choke. I will post a picture of the pattern I get out of it at 30 yards tonight.
Do you use a turkey choke? Some of those special loads are designed for modified chokes and they don't perform well in an extra full choke.

I made my own 20g turkey shells this year. Cost me a whopping 2 minutes =)
Patterning them on Sunday.
I cant justify or believe some are paying upwards of 3-5 $ per shell. You guys must be richer than me!

I had visions of doing this myself one day. I bought some Longshot but never got around to it. I realized after buying the powder that I'd have to spend a bunch of money on the lead that I didn't have too. I'll stick with the Kent's they are cheap and effective.

Check out my patterns in my earlier post - Wicked deadly out to 40yds. I have not yet seen a shell that can out pattern that (yet.....and I am always looking)

I bought a box! Will not be testing them on anything but a live bird, but had to buy non-toxic for a specific area. We'll let you all know if they kill any better than my tried and test Federal 6's.
Also, only paid $23 plus $10 rebate, so not really unaffordable. $50 plus a box is outrageous though. But, CT sells Heavy Steel for like $44.95 where I am. And that is equally outrageous!
