Will NOT buy a moose license anymore

We will be going again, already decided on a new spot where we can get a bull. We are already planning, google scouting, booked the holidays, planning an aerial scouting trip and on the verge of losing sleep with all the early planning going through my mind. I started looking forward to this season before the last season was over. Perhaps I'm going against the grain but as long as there are tags available I'll be in the draw to get one.

Moose hunting is my favourite week of the year, short of death I'd never give it up....

100% agreed - I'm going to just adapt and go with it. My favourite couple weeks of the year are at moose camp. We're lucky enough to have a large group of dedicated hunters so we're guaranteed a tag. We've been making the trip to northwestern Ontario for a long time, and will continue to do so.

This is what happens when the ministry thinks they know it all instead of asking the people who use the resources, our group was saying we may just go for the fishing and bird hunting maybe bear if somebody wants one. They talk about getting the population up but some areas there is alot more cow tags than bulls, niceway to help bring up the population the ministry should screen the people before they hire them. Just because you have the credentials doesn't mean you know how to use them

Book smarts , doesn't mean you have any field smarts , which is a shame.

I've never hunted moose but my brother and I are considering buying a license. Nothing in hunting is a sure thing, including drawing a tag, but you won't get one if you don't try.

I wouldn't be so sure of that considering how messed up our draw is. I got a bull tag as a Pool 2 applying for the first time.

As for moose hunting, we'll be going again. It's a great week away for some of us that live in Southern Ontario.

For all the guys looking to relocate to other zones with guarantied tags for large groups .. Do yourself a big favour and take a weeken to drive up to the area your considering . Don't just look at google earth and say wow look at all those cuts , that looks like a great spot . It might look good on the computer but it can be cut overs as old as the 80s wich is pretty much a forest again now and not hunt able . Last fall we seen half of Toronto up in my neck of the woods due to tag cut backs . All guys buzzing all over the place on there quads looking for for the cuts lol I guy asked where are all the cuts ? I said your in it lol was cut in 1985 -1987 . He was some disappointed, as wer manny others we talked to . Just a heads up guys .. Plenty of room for all as I hunt out of the way in areas no one else can get to , just don't want guys disappointed when they get up to the middle of no where and there's little to no place to hunt and hunters everywhere ..

43 years same spot and never missed a moose season. Most time I spent in camp was 6 weeks not counting spring, summer and odd winter trip to camp. Saw area before any clear cuts, roads to now where you have open areas and as many bush roads and trials like in southern Ontario. Never went up and not seen a moose. The moose population has changed and so has the bear and wolf. I will keep going up as long as I can even with no tag because I love the north. The MNRF needs to stop asking for public input when they know it is just a waste of our time. They are doing what they do best since the tag system and that is nothing.
