Bluegill on the fly
This time of year everyone is fires-a-blazing talking trout and panfish get no respect, so a change of pace seemed to be in order.
We wanted a big group outing and decided to hit up some docks for crappie, too bad the rain the night before had pushed most pf the big crappie out!
Thankfully the bluegill where in, and willing to play! So naturally I broke out the fly rod and started throwing flash scuds at the giant pods of fish hanging out around the docks. It was great fun watching the fly disappear and the line load up!
We must have caught over 70 fish each, and those bluegill put up a surprising fight on a 5WT (I didn't pack my 3 WT cuz I'm not a thinker...) I eventually passed the fly rod off to one of my friends who had never tried it before...he was a natural! Got his casting under control in about 3 casts and I'm pretty sure he is hooked...he bought a fly rod today...
A few crappie, one pike, and of course a bass here and there rounded the day out!
Was a ton of fun and a nice change of pace...now bring on the Brookies!! I'm ready!

Has too much time on their hands
Congratulations! I have to wait until the 3rd Saturday in May until I can take my fly rod after some panfish.

Has too much time on their hands
I finally got out yesterday! Had a ball catching sunfish and rock bass on my fly rod. I briefly had a pike but lost it at the boat.
