Lake Trout rod/reel recommendations

I found that copper was terrible for breaking and losing lures when you got snagged. Zero stretch. Didn't do well when you were trying to clear a snag. The leadcore can stretch. Not as many break-offs. I never found a roller or spring guide that worked well with copper. It would always fatigue to line at the tip. Was like pulling the trout in with rope. I like getting the feel of fighting the trout on the rod. I remember seeing the old boys hand jerking the copper. I'd ask how deep they were running and they'd say "80 jerks". You can't ignore the fact that it definitely works. Lots of trout caught that way. It's fun to get the old banjo reels out now and then.
