First crappie of the season
My boy and I went to check out a spot we usually fish for crappie. Thought we would bring the rods and tackle just in case it was on. Yuppers it was on as we brought home 24 slabs and tossed many smaller ones back. It was great to be back casting into the soft water. Gonna get out a whole lot more for sure.
Happy soft water season folks.

Congrats on your successful outing. What part of Ontario are you fishing ( or are you really in the outback ? ) . Not asking lakes or water body.

Fishing the Kawartha's. Most of the time really in the outback but need to spend a bit of time around certain people for sanity purposes. The more time outback the better I find. Hope to throw a few more of these crappie in a bucket later today. Gonna drive around to a few different spots and see how the bite is progressing.

Has too much time on their hands
Congratulations! Am I ever jealous. Where I fish (Bonnechere River) the fishing doesn't open until the 3rd Saturday in May.

Thanks for replying and best of luck. I better get out there soon and try and find some. I did see about a dozen in a small inflow to a really small lake, but they were already filleted

You and your girls would have a blast fishing these guys A Ray. When it's on it's fast and light tackle. Very good eating but takes time to fillet them. waiting for the weather to change a bit so we can go get into them again.
