Dog fights
Not a pleasant subject but live with them long enough and it's bound to happen someday. This may be helpful if it does.

I've done the grab both collars thing in the heat of the moment and received a good bite that almost took my thumb nail off (surprised it didn't), although I was by myself. The back legs deal is good as long as there are two people there to do it.

Just don't eat Tucker's kibble when he's around and you're going to be all right.

Tucker shares his food gladly. Try and steal a bird from him and it can get ugly.

Has too much time on their hands
We had a 2 year old female black lab and rescued an older collie. They didn't get along! Constantly sniping at each other. One day they really got into it and fur was flying. I just got ticked off, picked them both up by the scruff of their necks and banged their heads together - told them if they wanted to fight they'd have to fight me first.
It worked! They still didn't like each other and the collie would nip at the lab's rear end and run off but they didn't get into a real fight again.

The most important line in the whole article.
"The best way to eliminate dog fights is to never let them happen in the first place. This is accomplished by controlling the environment you take your dog too..."

Only one dog fight in my career.
I was sleeping in one morning , when my husband invited the neighbor in with his new JRT. Not a good idea .
My JRT was not impressed and all hlle broke loose.
I jumped out of bed and had to break up the fight in my pjs. , as both men stood there aghast.
Now you could invite any dog in with my setters and they would smile and say, " Welcome".

A friend I know had two Walker hounds that literally hated each other. They were litter mates which made it all the more perplexing. He had to keep them in separate kennels with their own runs becaue they fought every time they were together. It broke his heart, but,he finally had to ship one out to another Walker owner.
If a tree falls on your ex in the woods and nobody hears it,you should probably still get rid of your chainsaw. Just sayin'....

I too had two male hounds that disliked each other, they would hunt fine together. Just don't room them together. One moment they would lick each other, the next all teeth in action. We had two male hounds , father and son came as lost hounds to our camp, they had to sleep on opposite porches. The owner told us they also dislikes each other.
My current male is also grumpy at times, would not tolerate another male, I love him to death as a hunting hound, has awesome character while hunting and a one man hound. Females for me from now on, I have three that kennel together, snuggle, etc. All three get into the same dog house. Same genetics as my grumpy male ??? My male is 10 years old now, he listens to me, but can't be trusted without direct supervision.

I had a 3 way dog fight going on this winter right between my legs. I should of known better. Dead coyote at my feet and old male walker on a lead standing over top of it. Didnt see the two 1 year old pups come running in for a wiff of wiley and the old dog was having none of it. He had the first pup on the ground then lit into the second one cutting its ear pretty bad.
The dogs will run fine together, But soon as their is a kill they don't like to share....Getting better with time, At the end of this winter we didn't have any problems.
