What is the bigger factor in the declining Moose populations? Natives or Predators?
While both are problems, I'm led to believe that predators have a far greater role in the moose population then poachers, I mean natives...

Ray let me know if you decide to get some info for the last 20 years of hunting... would love to help out... i think it is about time that equality for ALL.. and i do mean all, should be for all.. but i also believe that there is not just one answer to this big problem.. there must be a resolution of all the answers into one.. ie : predator control, Native pressure, Adult tag seasons, Bear problems and the mismanagement of the mnrf. all these items will have to be dealt with in order to have some changes in the moose populations.. but again, just my 2 cents

Not that I realy want to keep this going but id just like to point out that people can easily cover 200 plus miles a day , and can easily shoot moose at over 300 yards .. A Wolf cannot , nor can a bear .. This winter up here the wolves were starving due to snow conditions making it harder than usual on the wolves .. There numbers will be declining , as a part of the natural cycle ..
Heres another fun fact perhaps most were overlooking as I did myself until a conversation with a fellow upset hunter .. Factor in that some of the metis card holders ( wich I know a lot of ) are also applying for tags . So not only do they not need tags , but they are taking tags that would other wise be ours ... How do you like them apples , adds a little insult to injury if you ask me ...

It's true, but,it sure isn't fair,is it? There's so much screwed up it's impossible to see where to start to fix it or if it even can be. F.U.B.A.R.
If a tree falls on your ex in the woods and nobody hears it,you should probably still get rid of your chainsaw. Just sayin'....

I do know that some are buying tags, but are actually following the rules and regulations.. that doesn't mean that if they see an animal they want, that they would not hesitate to harvest it. But it is kind of a double edge sword... some would buy the tags to be fair to all... but others would buy the tags to take that one away from the pool.. don't really know what to say about it..

If the tags are going to continue to change drastically from year to year they need to change the system so that you know if you have a tag by January so that you don't plan your vacation around a hunting trip you may not take if you don't draw a tag. I might have two weeks off in October with nowhere to go because I can't change my vacation pick in the middle of the year. Our camp owner also suffers if we don't show up. Just give us time to plan if you are going to change the rules yearly

In zone 48 the Metis and other FN have their own tag system. They have their own season from Sept 15 until Jan15. They monitor and control their own hunters using FN conservation officers. At first I think it was off to a rocky start but from the little info that leaks out I think the FN hunt has gained credibility within their group. I do wish they would report their harvest data and the number of tags issued. The non-native hunt has gone for a total crap as the FN hunt gained momentum. Lots of hunt camps for sale in the upper Ottawa Valley. Then there's the Land Claim coming as well so that won't improve the non-native hunting either.

Stewing about it does sit well with me and there's nothing more that I can do. I feel that if I buy one, I condone what the ministry is doing and giving them the green light in continuing to screw things up even more
This is my small way of protesting for what they have done. I feel better knowing that I've done my small part.
No matter what meetings, discussions or other crap they tell you, the real issues will not be discussed nor any action will be done on what matters. You can attend all the meetings you want, this government is hurting for $$.
Screw Hydo up, sell it, pay off your grocery magnets, higher prices, and on and on it goes.
OFAH have done what they can do without losing funding for the gov. and on and on.
Sorry for the rant guys and gals
Decision made.

Won't buy moose anymore in ONT and ain't bought deer here in,,,,,well You know. Every time I lay out $ it is to acquire something. License money in this province is for nothing to do with the sport, so stays in my pocket
