Default In the pool but not swimming this year ???

Just wondering how many of you guys are pool 1 moose hunters but are not going moose hunting now due to group size increases??? Obviously the bump in group numbers coming a month and a half before the tag deadline doesn't leave a lot of time to grow groups to meet the new needs...

I've seen a lot of moose sign recently here in WMU #8 and #5. Saw a healthy yearling calf the other day. Last year sign was sparse. It's already starting to look better.

Chris I thought the only way to grow the moose population was to eradicate bears and wolves...Didn't think we did that yet?

Moose has a long ways to go still. The deer population is down, maybe less circling disease (brain worm)going on. Now time to deal with the predators to further help the population.

"99Z"? How does that work? I've obviously missed something.
If a tree falls on your ex in the woods and nobody hears it,you should probably still get rid of your chainsaw. Just sayin'....

This has been in effect for a long time , if not going hunting this particular season and want to stay in pool # 1 category, buy your moose license and fill in 99 z in the wmu square , this keeps you in pool # 1 category.

Ive never applied for 99 z, but understand it, but one thing. When you apply in 99z, does it count as another year in the draw without drawing a tag, or does your years without drawing stay the same? This would be for groups that "play" the tag system in senority of members and transfers etc

to remain in p1 if you are p1 this year YOU MUST APPLY and be turned down. In the past (before 99z) guys would apply to an obscure or impossible to draw WMU. But sometimes it would backfire and they got a tag. OOPS! Then along came 99z. 99z guarantees that you remain in p1 for the following year and if you're in p2 then you will advance to p1 the following year.

word of caution. if you apply to 99z (playing the game as we all do) and are still going this year - understand this - you will not be eligible for a tag if surplus is declared! you are ineligible to receive a surplus tag.
If you keep doing what you've always done. You'll keep getting what you've always got!
