Rules. 1. No people names. 2. Has to be two sharp syllables, which can then easily be heard at a distance.
Almost same rules. I'm down to one syllable. Started with my dad when I asked why people call me by my middle name Leigh instead of my first name. His response was Leigh was one syllable and he could yell it faster. He had the same rules with dogs.

Dance is one syllable so it met the criteria.

I said it drove me nuts, not that it causes me to dislike people. People always think i'm a hypocrite because my cats' shortened names are Pete and Madi. But their real names are Petawawa and Madawaska.

I will say this though. Take walks by yourself in parks on nice days with pup in tow. Watch the women flock to you.

How are the cats getting on with the new addition?

We don't have the pup yet. Not old enough to re-home until first week of June.

Re: the walks... yeah... it'll be interesting. I've got one of the cutest nearly 2 yr old boys on the planet... and will soon have a cute puppy along as well. lol

Wow double whammy. I might have to make a trip up to Ottawa to watch how dynamic plays out.

Dad named his beagle "Elvis". Try calling that in the woods.

Allowed my daughter to name our rescued 90 lb Irish Setter - "Baby"! I sounded real cool in the field! "Here Baby, come Baby"!

A friend let his little son name their new Dalmation puppy. Not long after "101 Dalmations" came out. The kid picked "Dipstick" even though the pup had no black on it's tail at all.

So Dug is out of the question?

or maybe you will be lucky and he is a Toy Story fan and will come up with Buster (Andy's dog's name)

Well, my 5 yr old is a girl, and so is the pup. So... Likely Dug and Buster are out. Lol

Best dog I ever had was a tri-colour border collie named Buster. That dog and his life story and abilities was worthy of a Jack London novel.
