I will never give up hunting, I have no motivation this year and by the looks of this thread I am not the only one.

You started the thread. Were you hoping for a pep talk, commiseration, someone to say "yes life is hard", "yes there are fewer turkeys, don't bother"?
Hunting in all it's forms is a drive and a passion, the motivation for which may not be entirely understood even by those who feel compelled to pursue it. The rewards are the intangible as much as the game taken. For a sure thing you can get the turkey of your choice for $30 at your local grocer.
If you don't have it don't do it, your choice.

Maybe time to take a small break until the itch returns. I am the same way with fishing and photography. At times I have the itch to do it and get out there other times the motivation just isn't there.

Nothing wrong with being human and certainly don't beat yourself up over it. Sounds to me like you have a lot on your plate right now....maybe the extra sleep in the AM is more important

Man I dont care how much you hunted or held a gun or bow as a kid the fact is you have lost sight and I'll agree that you are definitely no turkey hunter! Taking your fiancée out for dinner and a movie will cost more and last about three hours yet people don't bat an eye at the cost of that. A licence to enjoy the passion of hunting for weeks on end and we all b!tch about fees and $2 service charges. Sure everyone can have an opinion but sharing this in a turkey hunting forum and talking about waste of time when he spends every day postin here? Now thats just kinda silly and hypocritical.
Not allowed to be down during hunting season I guess, all these posts about not being hardcore and not a real hunter and all that crap does not make things any better, it just makes me realize how horrible some people can be.

I see support on here from people who are or were in a similar situation as myself currently, some of whom I have met and are absolutely great people, but I guess I better not put my opinion of that on here either.

I have chatted with a number of the guys on this forum when out for breakfast a few times and have PM chats with a number of others of like mind.

For the record we do not go out for dinner and a movie, our lives are 100% surrounded by work but at our places of employment and at home where we are trying to build a life.

It is frustrating for me to not have any motivation to hunt and it is more frustrating for me to see myself wasting even a dime during this time of building a life.

I grew up hunting with my father, fishing with my grandfather and gardening/farming with my other grandfather. Both my grandfathers are now dead and gone, not able to see what I have become and where I am going, not able to be at my wedding and not able to see my life unfold. My father lives 6 hours away, I do not have him to hunt with anymore, I do not have him to drop a line with and I do not have the motivation to hunt turkeys or anything else right now, I hope it comes back but last year I only wet a line for 1 weekend in the year and did not cut a hole through the ice.

Thanks for making a statement about how your time and your money should direct my feelings but I don't care if the $2 service charge is no big deal to you.

I would like to thank those of you on this thread who have expressed how difficult and exciting times in your lives have affected your hunting in both positive and negative ways, it makes me understand that this is not something new.

On a side note, my fiancee saw a Tom yesterday on the drive home and expressed how she wants to get out again, she still has not shot a bird, maybe she will become my motivation.

I went out 6 times (3 for scouting, 3 for hunting) this year and get no bird. I plan to try two more times.

It's perfectly normal to be down sometimes during the hunting/fishing season. I'm sure this thread would have taken a different route if it wasn't for that last sentence. The word "waste" really struck a cord with some people on here. Hunters/fishermen should know it's not about the kill, it's about getting outdoors. After all, that's why they call it 'hunting' and not 'killing'.
Better luck next time out with the fiancee and be safe.

I think a lot of people misconstrued the comment....NOT being able to get out to hunt is the issue. Pre-spending $60 is hard on the wallet when the season finally opens, life happens and you can't find the time to get out and enjoy the hunt.

Fox has made it abundantly clear that he's an avid hunter and it isn't about not filling his tags, as some are suggesting, it about not being able to hunt.

FWIW, I'm not too far from where Fox is located. Haven't seen a single TOM within 1/2 km of my property. I've watched the same hens most days as they go about their business, possibly as a same-sex couple, since they have no boyfriends..... The good news is that the season HAD been almost completely silent up until yesterday, BUT the last 2 mornings they have been sounding off at 1st light..... 1/2 km away. I'm pretty sure things are picking up, just hope one of those Toms makes it's way over to my place before May 31st. I don't give a rat's behind about $$$ for tags, I've got my moneys worth just sitting with my dad or the novice hunter I've been working with to "get his bird".
So many critters & so little time to hunt......

    He Shoots! HE SCORES!!!!!

I've only been out once so far also Fox. I was really looking forward to hunting this year with my son as an apprentice. He's done poorly on some tests at school simply because he didn't bother to prepare for them so the offer of him missing a couple of mornings of school was revoked as punishment. He works Saturdays so if we go it's a quick two and a half hour hunt which we've done once. I could hunt on my own but just don't have the heart to go and possibly drop one while he's not there. Plan on being out Monday.

Nobody misconstrued that. He said he spent the money AND took the time AND put in the effort. He got called out on a silly post in a turkey hunting forum. ..or is this a therapy forum? Perhaps I went wrong there lol

What's funny is the op has since chimed in on offering advice to others on how to kill turkeys. Really?
