Oh ya all problem animals should be shot on sight even family pet's protecting their owners property get the same treatment from the cops. If one of these yahoos shot my dog in my yard I may have an issue with that...

Well I hope they don't shoot the peacock that escaped from the zoo on the weekend, the police/mnr should have a butterfly net for that one.

As with anything the situation needs to be taken into account. Police responding in the line of duty got no problem with that. For me its my responsibility that my dog remains not a threat to anyone else or its self. When not supervised she is in a kennel inside a fenced yard. If she, forget about biting, charges someone in aggressive manner its my failing not one who is charged with the protection of the public and quite rightly their own protection.

Give your head a shake ! It wasn't a dog that was shot. Bears don't belong wandering around in people's back yards in urban areas. Once the police were called, the liability would be enormous if they did nothing and someone was injured. They don't have the resources to deal with nuisance bear issues, nor the time. The blame lies squarely with the MNRF. This is not the first bear police have shot, and most certainly won't be the last.

The ministry is always putting fees up on licenses to deal with problems and supply services they either need to put up or have people trained in different areas to deal with these situations just as in lake nippising ministry won't listen to people trying to help till its to late. Get rid of some office people and put more on the ground

NO the blame does not go straight to the MNRF ... it GOES to the current and at least past 2 Ontario Provincial governments !!! for SLASHING the budget to the MNRF -- reducing employees who may otherwise have been there to respond in a more timely manner !!

I thought the govt. gave the job of bear control to the OPP, a few years ago?

They killed a bear that wandered into the city - no big deal. These protestors should go home and take a nap - wonder if they would be out in full force if that bear had trashed their house or killed something of theirs. MNR didn't respond in time so cops took over. They did what they could - what if they waited around for the MNR to show up and the bear ran across a highway and caused a major collision? We live on the bears land but the bear has no business in the city, especially one like Toronto with many uneducated people. Too bad for the bear but what else was to be done in this situation?

People who believe the bear should not be shot are not protesters but respect wildlife. I am an avid hunter and fisherman but the ministry should have been involved from sat when this bear was spotted from what I understand they were called at 615. Am and left I believe Branford they got there 3 hours later get timming. The police should have a couple of officers able to use a tranquilizer gun
People who don't respect wildlife are usually bound to make some dishonest so called mistakes

If both the OPP and the MNRF are waffling on the issue, maybe the townships need to expand the duties of their Animal Control officers beyond house pets and livestock.

The taxpayers have the right to demand they be protected from marauding wild life....someone just has to decide who pulls the trigger.
