Hi Topher. Can you tell me which radios and repeater you were using? Is this setup repeating GMRS frequency radios? The 409 site was pretty technical and I'm afraid I'm not. Thanks.

They would have been using Amateur Radio frequencies that you need to be licensed to use. It is not hard to get your basic ham license. You need only 70% to pass and there is no longer a morse code test.

No.. Not yet.. I was practicing s few months ago. . But it's on the back burner again.

They are not type approved for GMRS/FRS. That makes it illegal to use them there.

Baofeng UV-5R. 409 shop or Ebay. They do NOT come programmed with any channels. You program them yourself with the use of free software. Not hard to do, but you do need to have a bit of computer geek in you.
All kinds of accessories available like larger batteries, earphone, mics, 12 volt power supplies etc
