Where to find GPS Maps
Can anyone route me in the direction of a source for GPS maps of ontario (garmin etrex 20)....looking for maps specifically for moose hunting and atv trail riding.....but water and road maps may be in the future addition as well.
Free maps would be amazing, but also know nothing in this world is free anymore.
thanks for any help

That's a good question - I have an SD card with a topo map of Ontario that fits into my Lowarnce GPS hand held unit but this card can't be used in the newer model GPS units - would like to get a new topo map if I could - I use it so I don't get lost on the big lakes in Ontario -

If you have an iPhone you can download the navionics app which can be used for boating or hiking. There is a free version. I bought the nine dollar version and it gives me really accurate bottom information when I'm ice fishing. Might be worth checking out for hunting. Cheers.

Where to find GPS Maps
I use back country navigator, it's a free app with the ability to use the maps offline. There is a upgraded version but I just use the free one. Works good and you can create exports on maps for your handheld.

Check Backroads Maps. I ordered the Ontario chip last fall and installed it in my Garmin. I was surprised at how accurate it was. The logging roads, swamps, lakes, trails etc were all very accurate in NW Ontario.

Trak Maps has very detailed high resolution maps.
They are a bit bizarre.
They show things like beaver dams and old bush trails that in 25 years will not exist.
But for the next 5-10 years-- it's great.
The version I had had 1:20,000 resolution. That's much better than the Federal 1:50:000 resolution of the paper maps or Garmin based systems.

Just to let you know. Lunix has utilities to convert from one GPS file format to another. The utilities are free, you just have to run them on a linux box because they're linux software.
Take the warning labels off. Darwin will solve the problem.
