Welsh your you know your stuff pretty good, sure wish you were telling us that there's nothing to worry about, but I don't see you saying that.

In the short term,I believe there's nothing to worry about.........as long as the NDP or Liberals never get to form a coalition which I can't see happening,at all.

I have to respectively disagree with you there as I do believe at minimum we will have a coalition government of NDP and Liberals.

I sure hope you're wrong on that count, greatwhite. The very last thing this country needs is a pie-in-the-sky socialist regime that tries to be all things to all people solely to garner votes. Gun control is only a small blip on the radar in the grand scheme of things. When you factor in Foreign Affairs,Defense,Health and Welfare and Commerce, these people are completely inept. We've only to look at Ontario for a glaring example and the jury is yet to be empanelled in Alberta, but,to quote the Late Mickey Mantle...."Boys,she don't look good."

Well, the good news is that this bill won't pass. But I do worry that this looks like a trial balloon.

I couldn't find a single media outlet, including the Opinion and Editorial sections, that made even a mention of it over the weekend.
It may have been a trial balloon, but so far it looks like it went over like a lead balloon.

There's been a concerted effort by the left wing media to stifle all stories and articles regarding gun control,in particular,The Toronto Star which has been conspicuous by their editorial silence for the last two years. It's almost like they were told to STFU about it and hope it goes away so as not to become an issue at election time. Should there ever be a leftist majority government of any stripe elected, then, look out.

I dunno if that is completely true, when the Mayor of Saskatchewan misspoke last week and blamed gun control for the Officer being shot, that circled the news outlets fairly quickly and was well covered by the media. News of the reading of this bill on the same topic, in the same week and no one batted an eye.
I don't think gun control will be on anyone's agenda as long as the majority of the House is filled with Conservative Senators, it would be pointless of the Liberal/NDP party to alienate voters when there is no chance of a bill ever being passed/adopted.

Which is why Harper needs to stack the Senate with those 20 vacant seats.

I tend to think that this Bill is being ignored by the media because it is so blatantly flawed. I am guardedly optimistic that even the left-wing media has learned enough to understand the blurry definition of 'hunting rifles'.
Add to this her foolish comments Re: LEOs having guns at Parliament and that gaff she made with the seal hunt and her response to the American tourists.
