Has too much time on their hands
Local company ignored, Wynne gov't sends contract for Ontario Ferry to Chile... Wynne gov't again...
Wynne at it again.
Local company snubbed as Ontario awards $40M ship contract to Chile
http://www.torontosun.com/2015/06/11...tract-to-chile
The president of a Wheatley, Ont., ship-building company is irate his company didn't get a chance to bid on a new $40-million ferry to serve Pelee Island.
http://blogs.windsorstar.com/news/lo...iled-ferry-bid
the two-year project would’ve created 75 direct new jobs and 50 indirect new jobs for the region.
...
Despite a history of building service vessels since 1958, Hike Metal was rejected.
...
He’s been told by his Quebec partners that their proposal was within roughly five per cent of the winning bid from ASENAV in Chile.
Canadian company within 5%, but not allowed to bid, I wonder if it has to do with:
1) Corruption
2) ignorance and anti-Canadian made sentiment
3) dismissal of people's needs and the tax income.
4) Chile being a Socialist gov't run by a woman
5) All of the above
??
Hike Metal products has been good for Ferries elsewhere in Canada including the Toronto Island, research vessels etc. and not allowed to bid....???

Thanks for posting this, had just finished reading the story in our local edition. Unbelievable decision making! What's even worse is the statement made by the spokesperson for the Ministry of Transportation who said.....the procurement process must not discriminate based on geography.
Maybe he/she should hike it to Chile for a job! I would think there will be some reaction to that statement.

a few other points to add to further irritate us all:
- this part of the province has one of the highest unemployment rates in all of Canada
- Hike has also built ships for the Coast Guard, they are more than capable
this is an absolute slap in the face that they were not allowed to bid....these are the exact type of jobs the government should be drooling over and attracting...no wonder why manufacturing is disappearing from Ontario...makes me sick...

This corrupt bunch has got to be screwing things up intentionally. They can't possibly be doing it as consistently by mistake ! There is no question the local builders could have built this boat. They have built bigger ! And to not even get the chance to submit a bid is unreal. But, I guess it's what we should expect from this Toronto government !

Wheatly is less than 20 minutes drive from Leamington (if you stop at some road side stands for veggies and fruit), and the company is more than capable, this is just incompetence, criminal or a goal to cripple Ontario's economy.... I guess if everyone is either working for the gov't or on unemployment they become dependent on the Liberal... maybe????
Heinz left and even the greenhouses in that area are moving... $200,000,000 going to OHIO.

Wont comment or speculate about possible corruption/motivations for not allowing the bid (just wow).
Will comment on this admins continued um, ignorance and disdain towards rural or Northern Ontario, area's hit hard by job losses, (Wasn't Leamington in the news ast year and didn't Ms Wynne spew some garbage about helping the area with a whopping $200,000 vs the bazillions for her friends)
the common man (anyone outside PS or the GTA).
Yes yes I know those of us who have "griped" or foretold/predicted or XYZ are just haters and have it all wrong. Bets we wont hear from the defenders.

Yep, Heinz closures, $200,000.... to pay two bureaucrats for one year to say out of money? Nothing more than a slap in the face.
"The closure means 740 full-time employees will lose their jobs."

We're dealing with the Wynne Liberals. Why am I not surprised?
If a tree falls on your ex in the woods and nobody hears it,you should probably still get rid of your chainsaw. Just sayin'....

We should have the OPP investigate this to make sure it's , you know legit.
Just give it up folks. Ontario chose this regime. Nothing can be done. Nothing. They have police protection when they break the law and the PS unions are rich enough to both own them and keep them in power forever now. You all are starting to sound like homophobes.

I’m suspicious of people who don't like dogs, but I trust a dog who doesn't like a person.
