Taking my old man fishing
My 60 year old Dad was visiting these past few weeks, and so I decided that I would take him fishing. Being from Newfoundland, he had never been fishing in Ontario and really, had only ever caught salt water fish, or brook trout - boy was he in for a good time!
So Pike fishing was first. We went to a little lake in a canoe that I had great luck with pike earlier in the year. I wanted him to catch one, so I opted for some live bait, just to have the best chance. It didn't take long before he was on a decent fish - about 32inches. It was great to hear him laugh as he hauled in the gator. We caught a few more that day and all in all it was good.
Then bass season opened in Muskoka….

We went out a handful of times for bass, and every time we found em. His favourite was topwater - particularly a hollow body frog that he thought was hilarious. The fish didn't… they hit it hard for him.

It was a lot of fun to take him out, and let him catch a fish or twelve! I was so glad to be able to share something I love with him. I imagine it's kind of how he felt the first time he brought me fishing so many years ago. He's gone back home now to Newfoundland, so it will be next year before I see him again. BUT I know we can talk about "that time we went bass fishing" for at least a year!
So take your dad fishing, if you are still lucky enough to have one here. And if not… take a kid - it's a great bit of fun.
Also, all the fish we caught over the few weeks were released, alive and well.

Always seems like I have my best fishing days with the old man
The fishing was good; it was the catching that was bad.

Great Pictures and the look on your fathers face tells the story,
well at 62 I don't consider my self ""OLD"", Just well seasoned
My father got me started when I was around 7 or 8 fishing the piers of Kincardine for Perch and it continued on , took a bit of a break in those late teen years, then got back into it in my mid 20's and have had the bug for the last almost 40 years. now my Son and I continue that fishing the past 25 years together , we also have had a family fishing get together every fall for the last 20 years, little brother and cousin and offspring from the rest of the family, up to 7 of us in total now and figure my cousin , Brother and myself have been fishing almost 50 years together, it doesn't get any better than that and with family you can say just about anything and get away with it as well. nothing better than having bragging rights for the year at the family get togethers we have.
some of my best father son talks we've had have come from some of these fishing trips, back in the bush for 5 days , and they can't get up and walk away so they have to listen to what you have to say to them whether they want to hear it or not.

Thanks for the great post. Awesome pics too. My dad is also 60 and we get out a few times a year. He's only 20 years older than me, so when we go it's like he's one of the boys now.
