The dog is also my companion up north on my 200 acre property where he guards the cabin and surrounding area.
I do get visits by bears up there and most dogs will not stand to a bear.I,am not saying 100% this dog will but he is a lot better
than a Collie or a Lab.So some dogs are chosen and breed for their bravery and tenacity and fit a certain role for the owner.
Why my soon to be 78 year old grandmother chose a Shiloh Shepherd. A companion while picking berries all summer.

I had to look Shiloh Shepherd up. Never heard of them before. Interesting, and beautiful dogs:
The Shiloh Shepherd is a rare breed of dog that is still under development. They are not recognized by any major kennel club, but may be shown in rare breed organizations.
Shiloh Shepherds are larger and have a straighter back than most modern German Shepherd Dogs; they are bred for intelligence, size, and stable temperaments. Their coats can be a variety of colors and color mixes. They compete in obedience, agility and herding events and work as therapy dogs, search and rescue dogs, livestock guardians and service assistance.

Due to his extreme size, and the size of his bark, Blu tends to scare the bejeezus anyone who comes to her house unannounced. She lives in the country alone, bears tend to roam her yard. Blu due to his heavy coat stays outside, he comes into the garage to his bed when he wants shelter....he will not go into the house, when he has he is in no more than 5 minutes.
Gramma wanted to feel safe when picking blueberries, raspberries, choke cherries.....all of the natural fruits and berries she spends here summer collecting...the same favourite foods of bears. She insisted she get a dog that was big enough to make her feel safe, as well as smart enough to not run past her fleeing a bear. She also has a cocker spaniel, but he is more of a pretty-boy baby.

Sounds like a perfect fit and if it ain't at least 50 lb's, it ain't a real dog.

When I choose a dog it is for friendship and loyalty. Same traits I look for in the people I surround myself with. I have never struck a dog I owned or worked with, and have never had a dog that bit, attacked, or ate babies. My last house dog was a 70lb pitbull who I rescued at 4 months and she must have been defective because she never hurt anyone in 14yrs. I used to mow the lawn with her hanging from a rope over my shoulder and then she would go sleep on the floor with the kids. She was by far the smartest dog I owned and for those who know me that is saying a lot.

Update: Hulk is now a papa...his litter is worth $1/2 million !!!!
The 175-pound dog, who is worth a whopping $500,00 thanks to his size and guarding skills, recently welcomed a litter of eight puppies, which is estimated at another $500,000 combined. In the video above, by Barcroft TV Hulk's human family and Dark Dynasty K9s owners Marlon and Lisa Grennan say one of the pups might even rival his massive dad's size when he gets older.
"Their papa isn't a legend for no reason but the potential to have another record-breaking world famous dog amongst his puppies is definitely there," Marlon tells Barcroft TV.
Like Hulk, his puppies will be trained as protection dogs by Marlon and Lisa. And most of the dogs have already been sold. According to Marlon, Hulk's puppies have previously been sold for $30,000, simply because of their relation to Hulk, but once trained, their value skyrockets to more than $55,000.
