I have purchased three brands and like them very much. I first got the Abu Garcia Silver Max and upgraded to Boca Bearings to improve the performance. I also like my Lew's reel Speed Spool. Recently I got the Daiwa Tatula 100 and it is a great reel too.

Quantum accurist is a good choice too light smooth and it's got the flippin switch. Around 150$. If you don't like the shimanos.

Accurist pt...someone in the industry told me he thought that was the best deal for an affordable but high performing casting reel. I think it's $99 at BPS.

I have to make a good choice and contemplate for my nest reel the calcutta! I just never see pro's using the round style casters, and so I have stuck with the tear drop style baitcasters. Apparently they do cast very far. I ended up getting a curado for a great price, and it is awesome!

The round ones I believe are larger. Maybe more for musky, salmon or saltwater fish.

Low profile for fish less likely to run out a football field of line on you.

Pros fish bass from boats, for hrs, so they want low profile (teardrop shaped as you put it) casting reel a that are light, and high performance.

I bought the Citica last year and really like it - it was only $100 on sale and I am really happy with it. But this year I was at Fishing World picking up ammo and the guy there mentioned there was a sale on the Garcia's (sell at cost) - I was looking at a Revo S but walked out with a Revo STX for $135. I could not say no to it.

Santa was nice to me this year and I got a Daiwa Tatula 100HSL (lefty retrieve) that I'm looking forward to using this season for chucking jerkbaits and topwaters...not expensive as they run about $170 before tax.
