Honeymoon "up north" suggestions?
Not sure if this is the right place or not but.........
The wife and I are finally going to go on our honey moon in the fall sometime (been married for 5 years now) and she suggested that we don't do the down south thing like we originally planned, but we go "up north" where we could relax, have fun and we could go for walks in the morning and/or afternoon and see if I could shoot a couple grouse!! (God I love her!!)
So does any one have any suggestions to where would be a good place for a romantic(ish) get away where we could do some grouse hunting?
1. I don't have a dog for grouse, so would be walking trails etc.
2. Not worried too much about drive time as i'm pretty sure I could convince her to do the drive as along as its not a 24 hour drive.
3. want to just have a relaxing time with the wife and have fun.
Any suggestion would be great, if you have a spot that you would rather not post, you can PM me.
Thanks from the wife and I in advance, Cheers!!

Hi Turkey. I went with my honey last autumn to a place called Couples Resort in Whitney just at the east entrance to Algonquin park. All separate really nice cabins no kids and they bring room service. It was very nice and you have plenty of hiking in the park. We did the loggers museum and several other trails. Don't think you can hunt in there but perhaps around there. I don't know. Three hours north of the city. I'm sure they have a website. Cheers

I'll second what flowerjohn suggested (Couples) or you could try Adventure Lodge which isn't as fancy as Couples (separate cabins as well with fireplace and hot tub, pretty nice), but Adventure Lodge is apparently owned by the same people as Couples and they're just up the road located on the Madawaska River, and conveniently located right on the Madawaska River Trail (walking, driving, or ATV'ing permitted, can go all the way to Barry's Bay) When you stay at either place you get a park pass for Algonquin with all kinds of trails to pick from. They include your meals as well and it wasn't bad.
They even allow dogs fyi. I brought mine.
Might be what you're looking for, good luck.

Out Post Lodge. Private cabins, fishing, boat rentals, trails to walk right across the road, or Jim can show the maps with all the trails. There are Squirrels, Grouse, Pacific salmon( Pinks in September Coho later ), trout open till Sept 30( Laker trout closes Labour Day).
It is in Zone 10 for fishing, and lodge is in WMU 37, 36 is across the highway(129) 35 and 38 are a few miles north on the west and east side of the highway. Cabin 2 is very nice( Cabin 1 is the honeymoon cabin, but it has no kitchen).
They have hikes that you can take to falls and an old mine/colony and many things. You are 15-20 from town, and about two hours from the Sault Ste Marie area( got to stop at the bush plane Museum), there is also the algorma train to ride.
Here is the link: http://www.outpostlodge.com/
Take the warning labels off. Darwin will solve the problem.

I went to Sudbury , stayed at the Days Inn, watched the slag flow down the hills. My husband had mono the whole time and slept.
( Not the honeymoon I'd recommend, but when you're in love who cares where you go.

Gotta go with Snowwalker on this. In fact, before I even read his post I was thinking of a few places north of Thessalon on Hwy. 129. Scenery is magnificent in the fall and many sights to explore. Have fun where ever you choose!

if you want seclusion, book a fly-in trip, wife and I did for our honeymoon 21 years ago , nobody within 60 miles of us,,,,
most are for fishing but doesn't mean you have to fish.. just relax and enjoy, you could ask about grouse hunting
enjoy wherever you end up.
