Flying
Anyone ever fly home a cooler full of frozen meat? Any idea of what cost would be?
Anyone have any experience doing this?

Air cargo charges are by weight. I shipped a Moose quarter (butchered) from Timmins to Toronto in '99 and it cost a lot. The butcher charged $105 to cut, wrap, flash freeze and take it to the airport just before the flight left and Air Canada charged $185 and wouldn't guarantee that it would be kept frozen until I picked it up. It came in at 2AM in 85F weather and I had to be right there to accept shipment and get it home. It was still frozen rock-solid,though. It was an expensive Moose, but, delicious meat. I haven't shipped air cargo since. I'll bet they charge triple that, now.

Thanks for the info - i was assuming it wasn't going to be cheap.
I'm trying to decide if I want to go up for moose opener and hunt with the group for the one bull tag, or go up during the calf season with my calf tag and miss out the bull hunt. Or drive up once and fly up for both but i want to be able to transport my share of the meat home.

Has too much time on their hands
there are other options ,like penny pinchers delivery and I am sure of you looked in the yellow pages you could find a lot of small companies that do small deliveries .Dutch

A Neighbor of mine goes moose hunting with a bow which is early in the season and warm.
His group haul two trailers with them on which they have large chest freezers and generators, they completely debone their moose , freeze them and bring them home and arrive with the meat nicely frozen.

I have flown all over North America with coolers of meat. Just have to be aware of weight limits for luggage. But extra luggage fees was always cheaper than by weight freight.

I have always checked my coolers as extra luggage and never had a problem. Have flown from Saskatoon to Winnipeg to London with frozen meat and never thawed. Also flown from Texas to Detroit and never had problems checking the coolers as luggage or having problems with thawing.
