    Hey folks,

I have raccoons in the chimney.. unless they're in the attic. Sound is coming from the inner flue i believe.. Don't know what to do as this is a first for me. Is there a cheap home remedy or should I call the "experts"? What should I do?

    I appreciate the help!

Get on the roof and check your cap to see if critters can get in. If there is access there then, and i am assuming that you are burning wood in that fireplace, then smoulder some smoke up there. just burn some paper or something. That shuold get them out and then repair the cap. I f they are in your attic CALL a pro.

You can always try and live trap them...Just bait a live trap up on the roof with some sardines and you will catch the guy(s)....Make sure you wait until all the raccoons are out of the attic/chimney before you seal up the entry though. If they are in the attic, you or someone should go into the attic and see what kind of mess (poo etc....) they left behind...

Remember, you do not want a dead raccoon down your chimney......Once you get them out, make changes to make sure they cannot get back in, because they WILL TRY...
If you get them in a live trap, there is only one practical next step, either with 22, garbage pail or some kind of gas. Don't just pass the problem on to someone else.

It seems like they had nowhere else to go but into the trap so baiting might not be nesecary.

I think fish is the best in a trap like sardines for racoons . Seems to work for me.

Sardines will work but I personally have better luck with marshmallows. Seem to get more coons with them and less cats and skunks. Good luck..
