Anyone ever done a guided Whitetail hunt in Saskatchewan?

If you want a 300lb sausage buck stay in Ontario. If you want a rack for the wall go out west.

Not too many 300 lb bucks (dressed) in either province.

The good times in SK may be over for now, similar to Ontario:

Ontario has a different subspecies of whitetail (northern or boreal woodland) from what SK does (Dakota). The genetics of the Dakota are generally larger with bigger antlers. The current B&C record typical is from SK (Milo Hanson's).

The heavy Ontario bucks are more a product of agricultural feeding than of genetics.

I haven't hunted SK, but from what I have read, the best hunting is late season, where you will be hunting in frigid temps from a blind, likely over bait.

and a book to learn to hunt them .....

I don't even know where to begin with this one.


1. This would be a once in a lifetime trip for me. I don't think it would be a "waist" of money at all.
2. There is a reason ppl go to Sask to hunt whitetails. They are probably the biggest in the world. Perhaps you may have heard of the Milo Hansen buck?
2. I know how to hunt whitetails, and have been doing it for years. I have shot several bucks in Ontario. I never said anything about learning how to hunt them, so I dont know why you would assume that I don't know what I am doing.
3. Thank you for the useless and irrelevant information about target shooting and Silverdales. Not sure where I mentioned anything about that.

Its been a dream of mine for a while to take a big sask whitetail. A non typ with gnarly drop tines is my ultimate dream.

The area i bow hunt doesn't have great numbers or genetics. I've never shot anything much bigger than 110-120". So i figure if i can save up the money and plan a trip for a few years out, why not go to one of outfitters ive seen on TV and give it a shot to come home with a buck of a lifetime.

if I had the cash I would be all over a hunt with jim shockey ,,he has some great land to hunt in the cold white north with some great deer to show for it ,,plus if I had his daughter as I guide I am sure we could stay warm in the blind ,,,,,I love those dark horned whitetails ,,Dutch

Heading for a week of Duck/Goose and coyote in Cold Lake, AB from 23-30 Sept, will be checking out deer/mule/moose and elk opportunities while there. I will report back, out of province deer tag cost is $174.00 (Brother sent me this years reg for fish/hunting).

Line, I lived in Cool Pool 9 years. No non-resident mule deer there, no elk. Moose and whitetail, yes.

Id spend that kind of cake on an elk hunt, dont know if a guided deer hunt would persuade me to go to that distance. But hey it sounds like an awesome trip so I'm sure the op will get what he wants out of it.... You only get one life to live, so live it up!!!!

I've been out west a bunch of times and the body size of the deer out there is ridiculous.
Yes there are huge deer in Ontario but the average size doesn't even compare from Alberta/Saskatchewan. I've been on hunts out there where deer that guys wouldn't dream of passing on here in Ontario are passed without a second thought about it.
