    Default Hummingbird Pirhanamax 150 problems

I have a pirhanamax 150 portable depth finder made by hummingbird. Its just over a year old and when i went to use it the depth comes up 0ft and the temperature doesn't show up either. The unit knows there's a transducer however it doesn't get any information from it. I tried this out of the water and it sounds like the transducer is clicking very faintly. When I jiggle the wire the temperature comes up but only for a second and then it cuts out again. Anything that can be done? or replace the transducer??

I have the piranha max with similar issues, check the batteries first (doh!), then if you can plug in another transducer to test - it should sound out clicks which are audible when held to your ear at a constant rate.

I had a different issue with another hummingbird unit sending pings to the VHF which had to be sent back for re-programming and that fixed the issue. I think Johnson outdoors was where I sent it.

I dont have have another transducer however the batteries are good and freshly charged. I'm thinking its a wiring problem due to the fact that it sometimes works if the wires right at the transducer are touched or moved.. Other then that it won't work. But also ordered a new transducer today so we will see if that fixes it

    Hi Winterfisher,
it sounds like the transducer is the issue. The wires on the back of the unit could see a loose connection and this could be why your having issues. Even though it works when you wiggle the wiring. Check the pins on the wiring you might find one of them loose. A transducer is a lot less expensive to replace but sometimes it’s more feasible to replace then the entire unit for the cost of the transducer. Good luck on your troubleshooting.

I found out that it is the wires going into the transducer... something isnt getting a good connection inside the transducer itself. Problem solved by buying a new transducer for $70. thanks amazon!!

It sounds like the transducer might be on it’s way out. The problem is the units are very well priced so a replacement part will be about the same price as a brand new unit. For a couple hundred dollars more you can get yourself into a nice colour screen with GPS!

    Cheers
