If you enjoy a challenge and have time to practice then like me you will love compound bow. I also have excalibur crossbow for when its gets colder as bows are harder to use with winter dress up.

I found that my biggest issue.. I am a big guy( 6'2" at 260 lbs) and I could pull that bow ( 65lbs) back all day long without much issue.. but doing it with heavy layers on in the cold weather, really added to the challenge..

A xbow vs compound thread. Uh oh.
It depends on what you're hoping to get out of your pursuit of game. If you're looking for the easiest, most effective way to put meat on the table, xbow is your best bet. Easy setup, less maintenance, scopes to benefit in low light conditions, much less movement required to execute a shot, and for the most part, faster speeds with greater momentum. Like others have said, Excalibur is top notch.
If you're looking for a slightly more challenging pursuit, you may prefer a compound. As bowhunters, many of us will consciously handicap ourselves in our pursuit of a memorable hunt. Just ask those that hunt with recurve/long bow.
Myself, I simply find xbows terribly boring to shoot and enjoy practicing with a compound more than anything.

I own an Excalibur as well. Little maintenance and very comfortable to shoot. Head out to a local shop and try them all. One will fit you.

That sums it up nicely...I have both and hunt with both depending on the season and weather. The x-bow gets the nod once I start hunting late season (Nov-Dec), the cold adds a dynamic that makes it hard for the compound.

I was reading about the Carbon Express Covert CX-3. Seems nice. I'll probably go look at some this week. I'd rather go to a shop that specializes in bows. Try out a few. Any recommendations there? I'm in Mississauga east area.

What! Still too many questions and not enough answers...
So with regards Excalibur do they have a decent rep with regards customer support? What are some decent makers of compound bows? Regarding x-bows is fps all that and more? Does a bear really crap in the woods? Is the pope really catholic?

If you have some time this is a well written piece on the physics of arrow speed, weight, FPS etc...
Good reading to give you something to think about.

In regards to minimum FPS...
According to Easton, a 400 grain arrow traveling at the glacial speed of
170 feet-per-second has sufficient energy to harvest a mature deer. Heck, many kids bows can easily shoot such a light arrow faster than
170 fps, and I've seen such rigs do pass-throughs on deer!

Makes you look at arrow selection in a different way.
