no lies MikePal.. as I see it, they ARE the #1 crossbow in the world.. you may not think so, many may not think so, but that's your opinion and my opinion is mine.. many people say Ford is the best pick up, others will say Dodge..
well, I say Excalibur is the absolute best... agree or disagree, I don't really care..

So with regards Excalibur do they have a decent rep with regards customer support? What are some decent makers of compound bows? Regarding x-bows is fps all that and more? Does a bear really crap in the woods? Is the pope really catholic?

I shot with an Xbow for many years (yes, Excalibur is the king IMHO). Low maintenance, pull, and pop..
But if you go to the archery range, Xbows are not allowed in many cases. Plus, after 5 shots or so, pull and pop gets boring.

The challenge and learning experience involved with a properly fitted compound bow moves the game up 5 notches that you'll never get with an Xbow. Every shot, breath, stance and twitch will determine if you get a 10, or an 8.

Don't get caught up in the speed game. Whatever choice you make, any new Xbow or compound bow will put an arrow through any North American game, and it's not an issue.

Since Bowtech bought out Excalibur, I can't comment on current customer service.
But since Excalibur used to be a Canadian company, I've had acquaintances talk to the owner directly..Can't beat that.
The triggers on Excalibur used to be above and beyond anybody elses. But the beauty was its' simplicity. So in that regards, Xbows in general, usually didn't exhibit problems, unless people dry fired, or used incorrect or unmounted bolts to begin with.

I've got an APA compound bow, and it's a Canadian company. Again, I've gotten to talk to the owner directly with questions. Try that with Hoyt..But if I had to start over, and have the most modern thingamajic, and most forgiving and up to date bow, it would be Bowtech.

Nonetheless, top names in compound bows are Hoyt, APA, Bear, Bowtech, PSE, Mathews, Darton, Diamond, Elite, G5, martin, Mission, Obsession, and Strother.

I have vertical compounds and crossbows. A crossbow if you are not willing/able to shoot it constantly through out the year. Crossbows are not as much fun to shoot as a vertical. Can not bowfish with a crossbow. Line up the scope and bingo bango you are done and ready to hunt/shoot. Vertical bow is constant fiddling with it. Crossbows scare the general population that think they are a magic weapon that can shoot 200 yards all on their own. Have not shot my crossbows for two years now. They are ready for when I turn into an old guy. LOL CHEERS!

For your question about vertical bows I shoot Diamond by Bowtech. I have Outlaw, wife has Infinite, and my daughter has Atomic. No complaints with Diamond or Bowtech. Good price point and reliable.

if hunting this year its pretty late to pick up an bow and be ready to shoot at a crititer ethically. practice practice practice, a crossbow is alot easier to famializer your self with but that being said you still need to practice practice practice!!, i have a compond for earlier months and pull the crossbow out in those colder days

if you can't shoot a min 3 times a week I'd suggest a crossbow
sure anyone can maintain a 20yrd shot but after 30yrds you should be practicing many times a week its only fair to the animals you are trying to harvest

Ditto, compound is a bigger commitment if you want to be successful past 30 yards.
