    Default Northern Moose Rut

    Hi Guys,
Was able to get tags for up in the wmu 16's. Just wondering when the best time to go is?
When is the Rut hot and heavy up there? looking at the last week of sept or the first week of October?
    Thanks

I would say both weeks are prime time.

I wouldn't leave it much later unless you intend to and be prepared for a winter hunt.

Like some have mentioned either week should be good depending on weather.

We hunted the 3rd week there last year, snow had already come and gone. Some nights we well below 0. Moose didn't move when it warmed up but seemed to be active again when we were leaving.... it got colder.

It will be hit or miss for you. Good luck!

I've always preferred the first week as they haven't experienced as much hunting pressure, calls, shots, etc that can get them on edge.

i appreciate the advice. going up the 23rd and coming back around the 30th. hopefully the forecast cools down a bit
because i really think the heat will hold them up. hopefully we see a few in the cuts. is that where we should focus?
or maybe stick to the water?

I wouldn't worry about the date you ve chosen. in my experience the moose rut happens within the same 2 week period every year. Hot or cold. Just seems to be receptive bulls all day or rut happens at nite. I ve shot bulls opening day of bow season or the last day. Let the sign and action dictate how you hunt and call. Good luck and shoot straight!!

X2, I'm outta here in the morning for a few days of bow hunting. Midday temps aren't looking good, but mornings looking nice and cool.
If hunting is a sport, than I'm an athlete.
