So kinda bummed out today waiting for my batteries too show up so figured might as well go out and at the least work a little old school long lead on a couple of planted birds. Worked well enough but the dog looked longingly at the bush. So we did a little walk about. Wouldn't say the flight is in full swing yet but definitely seeing a few more woodcock around so looking good. The bush I hunt usually gets hot right around thanksgiving so timing is about right. She was pointing well however bumping birds as you steady the dog really doesn't put you in a good position to knock 'em down however managed to connect on a couple. On the loop back a grouse flushed wild but looked like it touched down not to far away. Got her settled and looped toward the spot where I last saw the grouse. Quick search and she locked up. Got beside her and a grouse flushed brought the gun up but was a little slow and didn't get a shot off. Looked over and she was still on point. That's when the second bird took off and with the gun already up was and easy shot and dropped the bird in front of her. Looked over and she's still on point. That's when the third bird flew up and land in a tree tried a head shot but somehow the bird flew away. That's when she broke and went to retrieve the second bird. When she dropped the bird I looked down at the pup and said you really didn't know there were 3 there eh? She looked up at me with an expression on her face that easily read you didn't miss a bird sitting in a tree eh? Well she earned her bell today.

That was a great test of your pup. She passed with flying colour. Congrats. Good story telling as well.

Nice bag with an interesting turn of events! Some years back, a Pheasant Hen at Hullet flushed out of a soyabean field and settled on the branch of a nearby tree. Numerous attempts to get it to fly again didn't work and so we just took it.
