Default Grouse #2 for the 16

Nice cold night, at least for the 1st of October, and I knew where I wanted to be. The bush seemed thicker this week than last. I decided to walk a bit of a ridge that would allow me to look down on both side and maybe not scare too many grouse by crashing through the thick stuff.

It worked. I didn't scare a single bird. No flushes, seen or even heard.

On the way out I went back to bush whackin' and heard a bird flush from the other side of a poplar blow-down. I had a good idea where it went, but when I got there, it was not.

I hit one more spot and hadn't seen anything by the time I had to turn around to walk back out. Not 100 metres back down the trail and I see a grouse flush, but I didn't hear the usual "flush" sound and that pause was all the bird needed. My gun was up but the moment of hesitation meant I was too late (Still can't figure out why I didn't hear it?). Fortunately for me there was a second bird even closer that waited a couple of moments before it decided to follow its partner. Heard it. Saw it. Got it.

It fell right where I took this photo, although I did have to straighten up some feathers before the photo.

Nice work. Great pic as well - mine always look chitty compared to that.

Last Saturday, we got 9 birds between 3 guns .... well, let me rephrase that - I just anchored one .... hope you don't mind my intrusion by adding an image in this thread.
