So ever feel guilty when the hunt was too easy?
So ever feel guilty when the rewards of the hunt greatly out weigh the effort put into it? Yesterday feeling a bit stir crazy as the only thing I hate more than traffic is holiday traffic figured better plan for a hunt Tuesday. Thing is been chasing upland the last 2 weeks and really figuring woodcock still haven't filtered down yet thought a goose hunt is always an option. Sent out a few calls for permission....well that was before I saw the forecast. Showers, wind, and warm really didn't inspire much enthusiasm. Never the less a farmer emailed me back that the corn was off and there where some birds in there. So about four this morning got up instead of hauling the full rig I just tossed some decoys and my layout blind in the Jeep and at least drop off some thanksgiving cookies if nothing else. Got there half hour before legal set out the smallest spread in a long time. Dozen GHG full bodies, Dozen old shells, Dozen field mallards, and a couple of mojos. Setup the layout but opted for a chair in the high field grass along the silage field.
Shortly after legal the first group of geese dropped straight into the middle of the field even before I could get out the call. Figuring I was snookered got up and roosted the birds out of the field. Settle back down this time when the flocked circled back hammered the call and got them coming my way. Managed to knock one down and felt well at least got 1. Reloaded and in comes the next flock a bit of music and had them coming on a string. Shotgun rings out and 3 hit the ground. Reload and on cue a single comes with a couple of clucks and down she goes. 5 geese in 10 minutes. That's when the rest of the geese decide to arrive. Settled back and watched about 150 birds eventually settle into the field. Sat there another hour and a half until they left on their own. Dropped off the cookies and home I went.
Must say though sometimes its better to be lucky than good.

Never feel guilty I hunt also to put extra meat on the table and always keep my expenses to a minimum. I also don't feel guilty for killing my meat hens.
Why would you feel guilty?

Got to take the good with the bad, only at times it seems the bad outweigh the good... Nice!

quick easy hunts are actually my more favorite. I get skunked more often than not, so it boosts my confidence :P
