Ticks

We went away camping for a few days and this evening we discovered are dog had ticks . I gave her a good brushing sunday soo at worst they have been on her almost 2 days , we pulled 16 , anybody have any advice on the next step , she seems fine , gonna take her to the vets in the A.m

Preventatives is the safest bet - Advantix 2 or Nexgard is what I use. As long as there is green grass showing there will be fleas and ticks. I'd get a product now from your vet, and put it on the dog. Brushing won't get any embedded ticks out. You can use extra of the product in the Spring. I use it from May to Nov. If you see any limping going on see the vet again.

what area? watch the dog, if she develops any symptoms of being 'off' - take her to the vet and get a course of Doxicycline.
In my area I only see few ticks in the spring. I stopped using flea and tick preventatives for the rest of the year.

We . We're out in the 1000s island area .she going to the vets tonight , it's odd because she's been in the brush all year this is the 1st time

Revolution is the best I've found. I competition hunt all over Ontario and United States and I had a dog with Lyme disease caught it in Indiana. Most dogs won't show any symptoms. But tick medicine takes 24-48 hours too kill the ticks and ticks take the same time too latch on too dog. So I would give tick bath and use baby shampoo around its head.

Revolution doesn't protect against the black legged tick/deer tick, which is the tick that carries lyme.

I used Bravecto (new product in Canada) this year and one tablet is good for 3 months. I started in mid April since the weather was so warm and gave her one more in mid July and my dog is covered til about now. I won't be giving her another tablet this season. I'm done as well.

I tried a cotton ball saturated with dish soap on a tick that had latched on to my wifes dog, held the cotton on the tick and moved the tick a little bit and the cotton ball for about 25 seconds or so and it worked perfect, the tick released itself and she was good to go. Found that little tip on a site out of the US.

I would rethink that, ticks have been out full steam the last 4 days. Advantix 2 by far the best. Bravecto is good but the dog still carries the tick until it latches and then it dies. If your dog shares your home i wouldn't recommend it. Kennel dogs on the other hand, great product.
