    Default Hornady .300gr XTP ?

It was recomended that I use standard .300gr XTP bullets in my Savage 10MLii. I stopped in @ my local gun shop & he has them however they only have the .300gr XTP mag's. I was told to stay away from the Mag's & just use the standard .300gr XTP bullets. I am going to use the high pressure MMP black sabot's instead of the ones in the package.

Would it be ok to use the Mag bullets in the savage or should I shop around for the standard bullets?

Both will kill a deer but the regular XTP's are supposed to expand better.

Don't know about the XTP but I shot 2 bull moose and some deer with Hornady 300 grn SST in my 10ML. All good. The one bull was 160 yards and it was a clean pass thru and good expansion. It ran 50 yards in a circle and dropped. The other bull was a quartering away shot at 130 yards. Shed the jacket as it exited the far side. The bullet penetrated a lot of bone. Used the MMP black sabot's too.

    Thanks for the input.

My Savage 10ML came with 5 sample regular XTP's in the box. I will pick-up the mags & give them a go. They are the only ones available locally so I will use what I can get for now...

Since its getting late in the game, I'd go with what you have available and get your gun shooting an acceptable group. After the season, I would suggest a call to Cecil Epp at PR Bullets for a recommendation on bullets based on your hunting style. I did this a few years back, with the intent of ordering 300 grain bullets from him. After he found out I was shooting a smokeless for deer, and my hunting conditions, he suggested a 260 grain .40 cal bullet (Extreme Elite). He is well versed in Savages, and has marketed some parts that he feels are an improvement upon the stock gun. I also bought some spare vent liners from him (his own design). He usually has a sale around the start of December where everything is discounted.
