    I'm no where as experienced as Rick but my own experiences agree with this.

    Ben Johnson couldn't catch up to a cow/calf or bull once they decide to leave an area. So not chasing after them is absolutely the right thing to do.
    I'm assuming you're talking about this time of year. The rut is over and moose have settled down to their feeding areas. Even spooking them for whatever reason but not chasing after them they'll just move on to another feeding area which usually is never too far away. (Maybe 1/2 mile). I've taken a number of moose later in the season after jumping them a day or days earlier. Some have been very close to where I jumped them and others were at most 1 mile away. They do have their favorite bedding and feeding areas so you should be returning to these areas to check them out.

    In my younger day I tried following a bull but after 51/2 miles it dawned on me that he was aware of me and there would be no catching him that day. Had I left him alone he would have been back to the area sooner than he finally did.

    Well; the season ended and the cow and calf didn't return.

    Sunday night the pair was on the game camera;
    They emerged Monday am; got blasted at; and left.
    The Bull that was watching all the action just drifted away.

    Wednesday night; the Bull was back bedding in the food plots.
