Orangeville Dogs Sickened By Inexplicable Illness
Something to keep your eye on if you take your dogs to places with other dogs...
Pet owners and veterinarians in Orangeville, Ont. are concerned and confused by a canine respiratory illness that's spreading through the town.
In the last two weeks, many dogs with coughs and fevers have been checked in to animal clinics, according to AM 640.
At first, veterinarians suspected Canine Infectious Respiratory Disease complex, or "kennel cough," but even dogs who have been vaccinated against that disease have been sick, CTV News Barrie reports.
An infectious disease expert at the University of Guelph's veterinary college says experts are still working on finding a cause.
“We have some preliminary information but it’s too early to say anything definitive,” he told the Orangeville Banner.
Owners are being asked to keep their pets at home if the animal is unwell or if it's been exposed to sick canines.
“Keep them away from the dog park, keep them away from any boarding facilities away from other dogs,” she told CTV News Barrie.
Dr. Leah Knoll from Orangeville's Fifth Avenue Veterinary Clinic says signs of the illness include "discharge from the mouth or nose, coughing, sneezing [and] a goose-honking cough."
No deaths have been reported, and many dogs seem to shake off the illness off on their own within a few days.

Sounds like a strain of kennel cough, similar to our common cold. Very contagious, if you have been to many field trials your dogs have probably had this at some point. Vaccines don't seem to be able to control this, much like our flu, its seem there is always a new strain on the horizon.
