Government can't do anything inexpensively (and on time for that matter) - but that is A LOT.
ETA: From the CBC. 2008 dollars? Should be about what, 20 - 30% more by now?
In the 2008 auditor general's report, the National Capital Commission said the home hadn't had major renovations in 50 years and needed $10 million of work.

And apparently it will be fine, because the budget will just balance itself and the money will materialize out of thin air. He is a spoiled child with no moral centre.

Pretty sure you could demolish the old one and build a modern replica with state of the art materials and techniques for less than $10 million. Probably be built in half the time with a far more appropriate layout/blueprint. If they are claiming $10 million then it's really $20 million. But what the hell. He told Canadians he had no intention of balancing the books in any of the years of his mandate and they gave him a strong majority. Canadians have no problem blowing taxpayer money.

I hear Wynne has a windmill ordered for its main power source. Ottawa is part of her kingdom.

It probably has Heritage designation and yes they have to follow the rules. If it calls for a slate roof or cedar shaker roof because of the Heritage designation then that's what it will be. Same thing with the windows and doors etc throughout the house so it's consistent with the time period it was built . That's actually a cheap renovation considering the size of the building and 50 years of maintenance neglect. I would love to go through it and look at what 50 years of neglect looks like and hand out a tongue lashing to the Property Manager and maintenance staff.

Hate Trudeau, but don't understand the comments blaming him for the repairs needed or the budget mentioned.
It was reported numerous times during Harper's reign that Sussex needed major repairs and he said "no way!", not wanting to be blasted for the expenditure.
