    Can I count on you?
For years I have been writing letters, standing at council meetings, radio interviews all to aid us outdoors people as well as for proper game management.
I'm now thinking of asking for YOUR endorsement in the current EBR on proposed 5 year pilot.
I'm asking that when you and your friends provide your comments that you add my name in there asking that I be consulted on Bear management plans as your trusted expert and voice on Bear Management.
I don't know if it will work but we need a voice of reason at the table and if enough people ask that I be involved ????
    Thoughts?

Yep! What works in one area may not work in another part of the province. Any committee must be made up of reps from all over the affected areas. For example, issues that someone in Kenora faces are certainly way different from issues in Sudbury.

With all due and utmost respect, most of us in Southern Ontario have no idea who you are. Before I endorse anyone as an "expert" or advocate on such an important matter with a short time frame,I need to see what solid qualifications in the form of degrees in Black Bear biology from accredited colleges or universities you possess, records of business accumin (assuming you're an outfitter) with general personal reputation and credibility referrences.

I think you would be a great voice on the bear program in ontario. A hunters voice is needed . Good luck ..dutch

Sorry Just an Avid outdoors person like most
    Not an outfitter
    Not in sales
No personal gain for me in any way other then hunting opportunities for us all.

    BUT

I have been following this issue and fighting for it when other outdoors people and organizations have told me its a dead issue and drop it!

So what do I bring ?
An understanding that our population model used is proven wrong.
MNR uses the model of 1 bear per 10 square Km as THE MANAGMENT STRATIGY. The number of 100,000 bears in the province lines up with the geographical land size of the province as a whole.
Problem with that is there is not 1 bear per 10sq Km in southern Ontario and way more then that in the larger portion in the north BUT they give us a number that works for the provincial model and were done.

In areas with an over population we are seeing big issues and it will be a concern to see what we see next spring for the lack of mast crops and berry crops this year in areas with population issues. We may kill bears in the den from this.

I have gathered info relating to calls to the OPP and cross referenced them to known hunting areas. Example, my area, bear calls to the OPP are DOWN over 50% due to hunting activities but this is not just from shooting bears, bears are there and Land owners are seeing fewer or no bear issues where before spring hunt, there were issues.

I have debated and converted many people who didn't want the hunt to happen,, represented us as a hunter, taken reporters on a hunt so they could share our side of the story and done well I might add and truth be told,, If there is someone out there who has no personal gains who wants to take up the fight I have done. I'll add there name to mine.
All I'm trying to do is make sure we have a real voice who is actually in the ring for the fight.
Not looking for fame or I would have been done long ago.
    Thanks
