    Default Atlantic Canada 2015

My sister and I visited four provinces in Atlantic Canada between Jun 7 to 17. We spent most of our time exploring national parks. Although the primary focus of this trip wasn't about fishing, you won't catch me traveling without my gear!

I made a challenging but achievable goal to catch a new species from each province. In the end, I caught 7 new species and accomplished my goal!

Shorthorn Sculpin (Myoxocephalus scorpius) - Species #464 (Newfoundland)

Rock Gunnel (Pholis gunnellus) - Species #465 (Newfoundland)

Winter Flounder (Pseudopleuronectes americanus) - Species #466 (Prince Edward Island)

Blackspotted Stickleback (Gasterosteus wheatlandi) - Species #467 (Prince Edward Island)

Three-spined Stickleback (Gasterosteus aculeatus) - Species #468 (Prince Edward Island)

Atlantic Tomcod (Microgadus tomcod) - Species #469 (New Brunswick)

Longhorn Sculpin (Myoxocephalus octodecemspinosus) - Species #470 (Nova Scotia)

There were so much spectacular scenery that there isn't enough room to share here. I'll share my favourite panoramic view with you, but I so encourage you to visit my blog posts to see the rest.

You had a very nice trip. I remember when I use to fill 20 liter pails with flounder and mackeral. At one time you could catch Cod in the 60 pound range a km out.

The Green crab I believe is an invasive species.

You had PEI muscles but I see no pic of fresh clams steamed and the you shell them dipping them in butter and vingar (maybe that is a Yarmouth NS thing). Woops now I see the clams I'm typing as I read.

The good ole Flower Pots their pretty cool haven't seen them in about 5 years.

Love the picture of the tide out with the boat. I can remember I showed up late one day to head out on the Lobster boat well the Captain can only wait so long it was quite the jump.

Peggys Cove there is also a place down near Yarmouth almost identical to it. Did you make it down to the South Western shore?

I never made it back to NS this year but did get down to NB to see my folks.

Glad you had a great trip.

I never ceases to amaze me of the beauty and grandeur of the coast line. There is so much to see and do in Eastern Canada yet very few people head there for their vacations.

The wife and I are going to head out for another visit next year, hopefully.

Thanks for posting the pics and links, look like you had a great time.

No, we didn't visit Yarmouth or the southwestern shore this time. We only had 10 days to visit 4 provinces, plus our focus was on the national parks and hiking. We may plan to do more sightseeing next time.

I just missed the mackerel by a week. They came in a little later this year . Next time, I would like to catch some harbour pollock as well. Do you have any areas you can suggest where I may be able to find pollock in the summer? I heard it used to be very easy since they were everywhere, but lately, their numbers had been in decline and it is getting more and more difficult to find them.

Winter Flounders were everywhere...but now they have a very limited season when you can catch and keep them.

Congrats! Beauty picks. Was that all shore fishing? I didn't know Atlantic Canada had such good fishing from shore. Were they good eating?

They were all from shore. June wasn't that great a time to fish to be honest, since the water was still cold and the Pollock and Mackerel has not come inshore.

I did not keep any of the fish to eat, but Winter Flounder and Atlantic Tomcod is supposed to be great eating.
