It sounds like it was tough all over that area. Some of our guys stayed at the Moose camp not too far away from you (Powassan)for 4 days and didn't see anything, either. They, too, got all bit up. It was worse than the Moose hunt. Climate change sure sucks, doesn't it?

Yep its the same all over the area. My dad and grandpa in trout creek. Nothing all week. But lots of deer moose and bear on the property just a few weeks ago. Strange how the all just disappear before the hunt. Im going to find out how some other family in the area made out today

Parry Sound-
Cameras were loaded with activity at night leading up to the opener.
We had 4 guys out for 5 days, saw one deer; a buck.
Did see Moose almost everyday- A bull, two cows, and a calf throughout the week.
Bumped the bears the first two days, and never saw them again.
Anything we saw was in thick cedar, wet swamp- guess the +22 daytime high was too much to walk midday

Yes the warm weather changes things drastically The deer are wearing winter coats so they dont move if they dont have to. We managed three just hunting locally. We had a lot of water on our property this yr and after hunting some thickets it became obvious that the deer were laying in small puddles or wet spots fairly close to the fields to stay cool and minimize walking. I would be willing to be that we (and many other hunters) walked by deer more than once that were just held up in thick cover and smart enough to just stay put .Based on what I saw at the butchers it has been a successful hunt for many. I feel for anyone who comes up empty.I have been there more times than I care to remember. Its a bummer for sure.

Just got back from wmu 48, East of callender, three of us with no luck. saw three deer in total but couldn't didn't get an ethical shot off.
sat in the stands for a couple days and stirred up the bush around us. way to warm for them to be hanging out where we were. at least during legal light.
spent the last two days hiding in the tree line around a drained beaver pond where we saw two of the deer at last light.
very discouraging as this was first time hunting this property however we learned lots and have a better understanding of the property now
anyone else in that area?

You're not alone.
My camp was skunked (WMU49)....for the first time ever. That heat was unreal. 20C! Seriously?

For the second year in a row our camp (WMU 49 Dunchurch area) never saw a single deer. We have owned and hunted this camp for 19 years now and always managed @ 75% success rate. We know the place inside out and never had trouble taking deer. The winter of 2013 was brutal on our herd and now that the MNR has stopped winter feeding in the yards I fear our herd will never build back up to what it was. We now see more wolves than deer.

I’m suspicious of people who don't like dogs, but I trust a dog who doesn't like a person.

This is the first time in a long time (25 or 30 yrs. maybe) that we haven't had deer to skin out on the sunday after our 1 week rifle hunt here in 82a and 84, the deer were totally nocturnal with all the trail cam pics between 11pm and 5am, guess I will have to get serious about bow hunting for the next few weeks until ML season rolls around starting Dec. 7th
Hope for the best, prepare for the worst!
