WMU 60 first week success
Lots of trail cam pics throughout the fall and what seemed like an increase in daytime pics in the 2 weeks leading up to the gun opener meant optimism was high. Although our group of 4 hunters had 3 doe tags, our trail cam pics seemed to show that there was approx 5-6 bucks and 3-4 antlerless deer.
Monday was the first opening morning that my 18 yr old son was going to participate in as his previous hunts had been limited to the weekends. Morning temp was just above freezing but as the day went on it quickly rose to mid teens. The only sighting of the day was a quick look at an animal by my brother but the deer came up on his wrong side and was gone before a shot was taken.
Tuesday brought the same kind of weather but I was lucky enough to shoot a spikehorn at 2pm which took the pressure off of us for the rest of the week.

Wednesday morning brought the same cooler temps to start the day. My son was able to harvest a 4 point buck(134# field dressed) at 7am. This was his second deer killed but his first buck. Needless to say he was quite happy.

The rest of Wednesday was spent taking the 2 deer down to the butchers as the daytime highs were predicted to stay in the mid/high teens.
With 2 deer down we didn't hit the woods again until Thursday afternoon and that was just a scouting mission to show the one guy some more of the property and to look for alternative watches.
I was pretty well done hunting but my son still had a tag and said he was going to go out Saturday morning. No amount of talking could persuade him to shut it down. He said he would only shoot an 8 pt or bigger.
I heard him leave at 6am Saturday morning and the next thing I hear is my cell phone ringing at 6:45am. The persistent(lucky) "little" fella had got another one. I told him I would be down in a little bit as he is yet to gut one on his own but is more than willing to learn/try/help. It was an 8 pt(like he said) weighing 156# field dressed.

All in all it was an extremely good hunt as other groups I have heard from have not enjoyed the same success.

WMU 60 is "home" for me. You dun good. Some camps I know got skunked the first week that haven't been skunked in decades. It's not sittin' real well with them, either. Oh,well, that's why we call it huntin' and not shoppin'. LOL

Nice to see the young lad do well.
I’m suspicious of people who don't like dogs, but I trust a dog who doesn't like a person.

WMU 60 first week success
Great job. We are up in 60 by 62 and 620. In 5 days with 4 guys we got one. 2 of the old fellas only put in a morning or afternoon watch. Hoping for another in bow. Last year I found the rut was around November 19 but sounds like it could be earlier this year.
