I am not jumping on this anti-refugee bandwagon. we are a country of immigrants who has successfully integrated refugees of all races and religions from all past wars. if done correctly these refugees will eventually become valuable members of our society, despite what you all think of their races or cultures.
what I am against is fast tracking the people through the process. there is a process for vetting refugees which should not be compromised to fulfill a empty election promise.
this news today that they are only letting in women and children and families is a bunch of posturing BS. first off this is the government admitting that their security checks are not adequate if they have to make such blanket rules that no single men are allowed.
second off they are fools if they think that women, or children for that matter are not a potential security threat.
we need to make sure every refugee goes through the proper security clearances at whatever pace it takes to make sure it is done as safe as possible, with an emphasis on integration. and second we need to back that up with military intervention over there, taking in refugees will not even scratch the surface of the problems happening over there which will eventually spill over more borders.
just my thoughts on the situation.

I don't think too many Canadians are against helping the refugees. We just want it done right. This country was built on immigration but this is the first time those wanting asylum could include people who want to destroy our culture.

I am also ok with accepting refugees but it better be done properly if and if that means the don't get here till spring or next fall so be it. This rush to have it done by the new year is scary stupid.

lots of Canadians are against asylum right now. my facebook threads are filled with anti-refugee sentiment, to the point of being blatantly bigoted. not to say all discussions of this type is bigoted.
I haven't seen much actual evidence that they want to destroy our culture... but I guess that's pretty subjective as to what culture they are destroying and what constitutes destruction....

Other than the Leftie David Suzuki saying "Canada is full" I haven't seen anyone calling for an end to the 20,000 a year in refugees we take in now. Personally I do think immigration (not necessarily refugee) should be slowed down (the Liberal 25,000 in 3 weeks is insane though) and handled better to encourage people here to receive higher pay in jobs and to help those arriving by allowing more spending on educating those arriving.

The government has ordered all military personnel currently in barracks and some PMQ's to prepare to move out within 72hrs,primarily at CFB Kingston to make room for the first wave of immigrant refugees. Some old hospitals currently shut down will be pressed into service, also. This should turn out to be quite the Gong Show. The Liberals are running it. What could possibly go wrong?

Are you saying he's booting out our military from their homes? Harper was a monster for streamlining veterans affairs offices but Trudough is booting out of their homes the lowest paid military staff who need army housing just to get by now.
Trudough is no different than PET. He truly hates the military.

I don't think "slowing" immigration down would necessary solve the problem. We don't really have any social/cultural criteria, so we hope to get a mixture that works somewhat.
However, the impact both immigrants and refugees have on Canadians greatly depends on their values and beliefs. You cannot compare people moving from a country the average Canadian would be willing to live in (i.e. Western world) and someone from Sierra Leon, Syria, etc. The latter population will have a high percentage who likely does not readily fit into our society (or even want to).
What I try to say is, the numbers are not the problem in itself.
We don't dare to specify of what we are willing to take in the first place. Look at the screening (lack thereof) and it's more than obvious.

Suzuki says that Canada is full and I would disagree with him on that but I do think the aim of a stable or slower increasing population wouldn't hurt Canada at all. I have a friend that volunteered with an organization that helped new immigrants and refugees, many of which have big problems adjusting (many want to but language, skills and help are needed). The biggest issue they had was the resources to help those that needed it. Canada accepts about 1,000,000 new immigrants every 5 year, a decrees of say 10-20% (same number reached in 6 years or even 7 years) that would allow better screening, free up resources and funds and most important staff (both paid and volunteers who are often burned out) that would be a big help to those in need of help instead.
There essentially won't be much screening except if they have a pulse with this new crowd by Christmas it seems. I think alot of the new crowd will want to push their culture here (like what is being reported in Europe) and $1,200,000,000 they are spending won't be enough and they will spend ALOT more (much of which will be bureaucratic waste and not medical or screening or training etc).
