This years hunt
As always the anticipation and prep that went into this years hunt was extensive. This year I set up two mineral sites and trail cameras for the first time. from early April till two weeks before the November gun hunt I went out at least every three weeks to place buck jam or feed or apples cleared trails and made natural blinds. Bought my first atv witch helped with the fire wood and carrying the pumpkins and apples out. As well as going to let me go farther than I have been able to go before. The night before our opener, loaded the trailer and truck for the ride north got 3 hours of sleep. Got to the landing were we park the truck made three trips in the boat with our supplies unloaded every thing, then immediately took the atv with apples out to the sites. great it is only 1 pm now I can get my gear and sleeping area sorted out and have a nice dinner and get ready for the 4 am wake up. started un packing my gear and sorting out the new stuff that was purchased threw the year. Started to open the packaging of a new zippo hand warmer with the great grand fathers knife and crap slipped on the package and cut my hand. called my son to help me put a bandage on. finished un packing now I am ready for dinner, went to change the bandage with the sons help. Took the old one off spurted blood, a crap must be worse than I thought better go get a couple stiches. An hour and a 25 minute boat and truck ride to solders memorial in Orillia, found out I had cut the two tendons in my left index finger in half closed the wound with stiches till I could have surgery the next day. went back to camp, so much for opening day. went back to the hospital the surgeon put 30 permanent stitches to bind the tendons and 8 to close the skin. got back to camp by one pm at least I can get an afternoon hunt in. Had to buy mitts while I was in town and try to get one over the splint that keeps my hand immobile. so I don't have to go back to the hospital for 4 days. I could still hold my rifle and shoot with my left fore arm bracing the fore stock. did not see a thing during the fore days. although I did have does on the cams all year. Went back to the hospital for a check up seen a nice doe by my truck in the controlled area were it is over. than on the way back I almost hit a ten point buck in the middle of the road at 730 pm just stood there mocking me. oh well did not see any thing in my area I could shoot but I triad I did feel rather bad for the son and son in-law that I was not up to my usual exuberant self as the pills for infection made me feel kind of sick. But we are already looking forward to next year and I know were I seen that buck in the controlled area hoping he will still be around. All the best all Don

Thanks guys not so much the hand I am concerned about, more that I felt I let the boys down and the ribbing I am and will receive for years to come for not using scissors.

Ouch! Too bad about the hand but good for you for going in to deal with it right away. Things could have been worse.
