A Bridge Too Far
So the Nipigon River bridge fails and we now find that the engineering company is not Canadian. See Blizzard's column here
http://www.torontosun.com/2016/01/11...based-in-spain
Now I am just waiting to see how the ferry contract that Wynne south to Chile will turn out. Is there anything that this government touches that doesn't turn to $h!t? I am getting tired of having my wallet (and all taxpayers wallets) being constantly pinched to pay for their mistakes.

Well
Some few thought they were better equipped to not only dig us out of the god awful hole they created. They'd avoid even more...........
Tired doesn't even begin to describe it.
Reports out today that
There’s lots of doom and gloom around with hiring and investment outlooks in Canada hitting the lowest levels since 2009. As if that wasn’t bad enough, Brent oil could drop to as low as US$20 a barrel

Good job Ontario
This is just more of the same.....and what's laughable is it's part of her much ballyhood 120 billion infrastructure spending to create jobs for the lowly peons in private. Something we already pay a ton of taxes for, nor should we have to sell Hydro One to pay for infrastructure....

I wonder just how much money this Engineering firm contributed to the Libranos election campaign? Not that the bridge has much strategic importance right? The sad thing is she will be re-elected next time. Most "progressive" libranos don't even know where Nipigon is.

I think your conspiracy machine is going into overtime to think the engineering firm is contributing to the Liberals. With that said, my experience isn't structural/civil (I am a mechanical designer). I have seen a broadside view of the bridge and after speaking with a few structural engineers here, the general consensus is it may not be simply a parts malfunction but rather be a bigger design issue. If the engineer specs out the incorrect bolt size/material or has made an calculation error, that isn't a parts issue.

/insert sarcasm smiley
have to wonder if the organized Unions, associations here made it easier and cheaper to pay foreigners

Its also the same firm (I think??) that used inferior products (?) on the bridge project in Windsor isn't it? Wasted a lot of time and money? Hello, red flag??
What is truly galling at least to me is that.
After years of ignoring
~Rural or Northern Ont
~Peons who have lost jobs, don't have job security, aren't getting raises, or those who lost/found jobs but lower paying and more I ight say.
And finally after years of persuiing green inititives, friends who keep them power and more I might say and finally directing tax dollars towards infrastructure and jobs for Ontarians. And making so much noise about 120 billion we now don't have........
Not only are they hiring foreigners, 120million on a critical bridge that links Ontario to the west and commerce...flushed...Now it's possible this could have happened to anyone in power, however.......
Remind me why we are selling Hydro One? And all the problem with Hydro from outrageous salaries/compensation to a company that has failed miserably in its job...see just over billing, or smart meters or....
What a joke. And these are people some thought would be better than the Cons

Ultimately it is the Provincial Government that establishes the criteria and bid mechanism to hire a company. This is the company that now owns the 407. If there is no requirement within the contracting formula to assess a company's ability or background then things like this happen. Already there are questions related to the required experience to design and build a bridge in Canadian conditions.
Within project management there are many ways to skew the process to one bidder or another.
As the investigation goes forward I fully expect this will be another scandal that will once again show that there was a political slant to the selection process.
In a $106B project where the Liberals are involved... someone's beak got wet.

Has too much time on their hands
Sung to the tune of London Bridge is falling down....
Nipigon bridge is falling down,
falling down, falling down,
Nipigon bridge is falling down,
so is the Liberals credibility.
Build it up with wood and clay,
Wood and clay, wood and clay,
Build it up with wood and clay,
Because the Liberals will save the day.
Wood and clay will wash away,
Wash away, wash away,
Wood and clay will wash away,
Poor, poor Wynnie.
Build it up with bricks and mortar,
Bricks and mortar, bricks and mortar,
Build it up with bricks and mortar,
So says Ontario's "first lady".
Bricks and mortar will not stay,
Will not stay, will not stay,
Bricks and mortar will not stay,
The Liberal government might not last the day.
Build it up with iron and steel,
Iron and steel, iron and steel,
Build it up with iron and steel,
Because the Liberals care, for real.
Iron and steel will bend and bow,
Bend and bow, bend and bow,
Iron and steel will bend and bow,
Unless it is designed out of country.
Build it up with silver and gold,
Silver and gold, silver and gold,
Build it up with silver and gold,
By raiding the ORPP.
Silver and gold will be stolen away,
Stolen away, stolen away,
Silver and gold will be stolen away,
Much like the Ontario taxpayers disposable income.
Set a man to watch all night,
Watch all night, watch all night,
Set a man to watch all night,
my dear Wynnie.
Suppose the man should fall asleep,
Fall asleep, fall asleep,
Suppose the man should fall asleep?
Then he must be a Liberal.
Give him a blunt to smoke all night,
Smoke all night, smoke all night,
Give him a blunt to smoke all night,
Thanks to the Prime Minister.
