This seems to be a move to the future as animal rights folks cast a sympatric view to those who will listen, primarily politian's. Having had dogs with long tails and docked tails as a hunter I prefer a docked tail. Those sympatric folks do not believe in hunting, so rationalizing that a tail should be docked to prevent bleeding , and infection have no mine set to listen.
the BAN as written is not as implied in the article. If you receive complications from docking an require professional medical treatment you can be charged. You can still dock, but your choice if the dog needs medical treatment related to the docking of a fine or euthanizing the dog. Ironic, for those sympathic to animals.
Europe has all but gone to docking. Italy is one of the last hold outs and it is in the process there. Germany have a unique law that allows the docking if the dogs are going to hunting homes.

Hard to believe that this 'voluntary' change to breeds standards within the CKC will happen to any great degree...
The Canadian Kennel Club opposes any ban on cosmetic surgery, but encourages dog breed clubs to not include ear-cropping and tail- docking in their breed standards, said spokesman Andrew Patton.
Of 67 breeds that have ear-cropping, tail-docking or the removal of dew claws mentioned in their standard, clubs for the Hungarian vizsla, Yorkshire terrier, Norfolk terrier and the American cocker spaniel have agreed to make tail-docking optional.

Very interesting article on tail docking.. We will however see laws implemented to prevent tail docking as the left wing politicians listens to the sympathetic cry of those who do not know.
