    Default Humminbird head unit swap

    Hey guys,

I recently had the head unit of my Humminbird 570 portable burn out on me.

I am wondering if I could simply keep the portable portion of the unit, and attach another head unit from a more current line? I am thinking of swapping out the broken unit and 'ducer with a Helix 5 head unit and 'ducer. This new unit would hopefully be attached to the portable base and power unit.

If anyone would know if this could work, please let me know. If it does, it will save me a few bucks compared to buying a whole new portable unit.

I thought of doing the same with my 565 portable. I asked around when the helix first came if it would simply plug and play with my portable pack. I never got any answers.

This fall I bought a humminbird 678 to plug and play with my portable pack. I was really only in the market to upgrade from a grey scale to a colour scale to help with ice fishing.

This doesn't really help you but some good pricing on 5,6,7 hundred series fish finders yet if you can find them. These I know plug in and play.

    Ya
the 3-6 series r plug and play. Had to figure out how to turn off the down image to get the ice transducer to work though. If the helix uses a RAM mount it should be ok. Check a store that has them on display. Also if the transducer will fit it should be good. Just 12v power. If not you can buy an extra mount and use the bag. Bring the 570 to sail and put it on the helix mount.

Just for everyones info, I checked with SAIL and the Helix 5 will fit in the portable case, all you have to do is punch new holes to the mount provided and use the 'ducer provided.
