Here's what happened to us on a late season hunt a couple years ago. We hit a large farm I had permission to hunt without pre-scouting it. We set up on a part of the farm where we had a good hunt the previous year. There was about 80 acres of cut corn.

We had a good spread, good cover, good calling, etc but hundreds of geese landed about 400yds away. They must've been feeding there for a while. It was a sunny morning so most of the geese came in a few very large flocks. They didn't feed for long so moving was a slim option.

We did have one goose come in, a very small goose with a nice band from Nunavut.....my first from there.

So the question is, what would you rather have.....

.....two guys getting a pile of geese

or.......one goose and a cool band?

For me I was more than happy with the band. The next year we hunted the same spot and got 40 geese in less than an hour, but no band.

Either or for me. I will take shooting a pile of geese any day, but if its a slow day and I shoot one nice goose with some silver it makes the day for me. But I'm easy to please LOL

Cupped wings legs down clean kill great hunt. Number and/or bands don't play into the equation

if everyone got a band that would top a big bag of birds, but otherwise a big pile of birds at the end of a hunt, where everyone gets to share in the spoils, is better to me than a band.

that being said our group is really due for a band!!

if there is a questions as to who shot the banded bird, how do you guys determine who goes home with it?

with most of my buddies,if it wasn't for certain who shot the bird, it goes to the one who obtained permission or did the scouting... if there was a kid or new hunter they would take precedence as well.

That day there was only one shot taken so it was easy to figure out.

We sorta follow the same rules as you. On public land if we aren't sure, we draw straws (actually lengths of reeds).

Last year we got two goose bands out of a flock where 3 of us shot (sequential numbers somehow). One went to my wife and the other to my friend who only has 2 bands. My spot, my scouting, but also my wife...no band was worth that argument.

You can have all the muskrats. I have been close to bear Wolf and coyote and never scared but muskrat that's a different story.

On the geese in would rather a bunch cause I don't get out much and would want everyone to have a good time.
