More food for thought.... the RCMP prohibited the Mossberg Blaze 47 22lr semi auto rifle because it was a AK varient..... yet will allow the Type 81 in to Canada. It is too bad the firearms lab does not publish their reports on various firearms explaining why they are "bad".

There is no rhyme or reason to it.

Not a clue why... there seems to be two ideas and talking out of both sides of their face... I expect to see changes and "orders in council" soon given the rhetoric in the iPolitics (Swiss probably but maybe even reversing those same firearms just approved) but time will tell.

We will see if the Cukliers and freedom hating crowd win or those that enjoy freedom. Given the more usual Liberal head in the sand or anti- attitude (ex. Alan Rock, Liberal Youth...) I suspect a fast end to freedoms in Canada and rapid increase in taxes inspired by Gerald Butts etc.

This is actually the key problem: a lack of transparency in the process.

More than anything else, this is the problem with the RCMP having control over classification: the RCMP culture (and police culture in general) promotes the idea that the agency is not accountable to the public and that its internal documents are secret. But the firearms classification process ought to be open, because classification is supposed to be based on hard criteria.

Meanwhile, a whole lot of silence from the Chicken Little crowd on the evil Liberals deferring marking regulations while the RCMP has classified some guns as non-restricted....

I agree. I will write to my liberal MP asking why the process can't be transparent. I wonder if a Freedom of information request to the lab would work?

I suspect they'd cite public safety, saying they can't inform the public about how a given firearm might be converted to full auto because this amounts to providing an instruction manual. My answer to that is fair enough, but a redacted version of the report needs to be released to the public when the classification decision is announced.

Given that the Liberals have made a good deal of noise about open government, I expect them to live up to it.

We just had a full decade of Conservative fear mongering, it must be depressing to go around feeling repressed all the time.If your brand of government did not leave a surplus on leaving office, which they did not,why would you attack the newly elected peoples choice.

Yeah.. but the ones that were doing all the fear mongering are the ones now in power tragically.... fear of Canadian security, fear of Canadian laws getting too tough, fears of the middle class and rich making money, fear of firearms... we have had a decade of the left fear mongering and rhetoric. Sadly those doing the rants have also taken a projected surplus and blown $4,000,000,000 to make it a deficit in 2 months, handed a win over to ISIL, got us excluded from high level meetings, our PM shows up for fashion shoots but at churches where Canadians were killed he instead goes to a mosque to do selfies.... 10 years and the light was starting to shine through the window even through the sh** being thrown and now once again the blinds are being closed and the dark ages are starting again.

A perfect example is the ipolitics article with Cuklier in it, fear of firearms and legal owners and blame for Harper putting into place laws that gave criminals mandatory sentences (Trudeau said would be rolled back), made it easier for firearm owners (C-42 etc being rolled back and UN planned to be implemented... + more) put in place tax cuts that left billions in Canadians pockets (Trudeau will reverse that and take take take....). It also seems more fear of law abiding citizens/police and military in Canada than people in the world that said they would take over and kill Canadians (as in the example of those recently killed in Africa while helping build a school).... the people's choice was elected with a lower % of voters than the previous Conservative victory and by less than 4 out of 10 voters... hardly the majority of the peoples choice but boy look at the self entitlement coming from them!

'Harper putting into place laws that gave criminals mandatory sentences'

Like I pointed out before sounded like a good move but now we have a serving Toronto Police officer going into the slammer for a 4 year mandatory, was it still a good move.
